Alright, this show came on at noon. I can remember my mom making me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, sitting on the floor and watching this show. I remember the intro song, and the the little girl floating up to the castle, and many of the episodes. I miss it

Just wanted to let anyone who is looking for them know, Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics on DVD is available here:

    freewebs.com/stuffilike/grimmsfairytaleclassics.htm

I'm an aspiring animator and cartoon preservationist, and I make my own DVDs (when there are no commercial releases available) of the shows that inspired me as a child. Normally people find me through google or word-of-mouth as I don't advertise, but I decided to do some word-of-mouth myself for a change, to help those who are actively looking for these DVDs and haven't found me yet. ;)

My Grimm's set is actually incomplete, though it is listed as complete. When I made the set, an accurate episode list was unavailable. I am still not sure if the missing episodes were actually dubbed into English, so I'm keeping it "complete" until I actually find English versions of those episodes. I hope that I do! But I have the most complete set possible in the meantime.

Actually, I thought it was French. Haha! Too much Maya the Bee I guess.

This show was my absolute favorite! I never watched much Disney as a kid; I was a little too thoughtful for my own good and found them patronizing. These stories kept to their darker, older roots which I loved. I had no idea that it was Japanese until I found the show on this site!

I loved this show!! I wish they'd put it out on dvd in the states. My personal favourite was also the 12 Dancing Princesses, though I remember the ending being a lot more crazed than the traditional story with the princes chasing the princesses out of the strange realm.
    missmorticia07 Posted 7 years 5 months ago
The best one was either Briar Rose or the one with the Dancing Princesses. I freakin love old Nickelodeon.

i remember this on Nick Jr.

Japanese cartoons are more mesmerizing than American-made ones. They even have an advantage over the US with car manufacturing.
    retroguy78 Posted 8 years 2 months ago
Here's another long lost TV show from my long lost childhood. I can't remember any of the episodes but I definitely remember this intro. Almost every cartoon on Nick Jr in the late 80s/early 90s is from Japan.

By far my most FAVORITE thing to watch on old school Nick! I actually had the notion to tape these off the tv, but never got around to it, now I troll ebay looking for old vhs videos and maybe even a bootleg dvd. I know it's out on dvd in england, so if your dvd player is region free, go fo it! Saddly, mine is a region 1 and I can't afford another dvd player quite yet. They really do need to bring this out on dvd here in the US!
    brown_eyed1 Posted 8 years 11 months ago
I still have one of those tapes. It's The Little Mermaid, the REAL version, not the one where she lives (*cough* Disney) to marry the prince. Lol, I loved this show and watched it almost religiously with my cousin when we were kids. Isn't it weird how we want so much to be able to draw like Japanese animators, when in reality, they wanna be just like us?? Why else would they make this show? Ah, memories...

I loved this as a kid. Used to watch it faithfully. The only ones I remember though is the Sleeping Beauty one, and the one dealing with Beauty and the Beast. Also, the theme song was quite catchy as well.
Skeletor Posted 9 years 13 days ago
I remember the episode about beauty and the beast, the beast looked a hell of alot like Mumm-Ra which I always thought was odd.
    Cybertooth85 Posted 9 years 1 month ago
Even with the japanese influence, this was more Old World folklore than friggin' Disney put out. This needs to be collected on DVD.
    Phantasmagoria_3D Posted 9 years 2 months ago
Heh, I remember watching this show when I was about seven in the first grade. It never stayed 100% true to American Literature Fairytales. Then again, it WAS made in Japan. The anime quality was quite good and it was pretty entertaining for its time. Of course, Disney was waaaay ahead of it!
Trashley Posted 9 years 2 months ago
Oh I remember this! God...I could not remember what it was called, but wow now I know. Yeah I used to watch it when it was on Nick Jr.
