My wife and I both grew up watching Saturday Morning cartoons and kids shows like ABC Weekend Special. Home and the Wacky Doughnut Machine was my favorite of all the episodes, and my wife loved the episode called zthe Winged Colt. We also loved watching the ABC After School Specials too, along with many other prominant shows from that time like American Bandstand, Wide World of Sports, Soul Train, Shazam!, The Secrets of isis, Space Academy, and any show that was a Sid & Marty Krofft production. It alls seems so sad that kids today are not able to grow up with such wonderful memories as ours.

Cbs storybreak was on at the same time as weekend special.

Definitely remember OG Readmore, though probably more from the PSAs than this show. I don\'t remember watching it that often, though I\'m pretty sure my dad recorded The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

Also, CBS Storybreak was a totally different program as far as I know. I think both ABC Weekend Specials and CBS Storybreak ran until the mid 90s.

I believe that this had moved over to CBS and later called themselves CBS Storybreak and the intro had changed as well, but this is the intro I remember.

I remember a spooky story, I want to say it was about a boy named Zack or Jack. Anyway, I remember a magic bottle. I don\'t remember much else, but I know after seeing that story I was hooked on the weekend specials. Those weekend specials were \"special\" because they used to not come on every weekend, so it was a treat. I think once WillieTyler or Capt OG came in it was weekly. Ms. Swatch ruled!!!

This along, with The Afterschool special gumball, are 2 of my favorite intro\'s from childhood.

WOW! Does this bring back memories or what. Makes me feel almost like I was a kid again sitting in the living room waiting for the special to start. The music gave me goose bumps because I don\'t think I have heard it for 20 years.

T.V. like this just doesn\'t exist anymore; and that is too bad.

This is my most favorite intro! I loved this show, especially when Willie and Lester hosted it, as said before, lol.

I remember the \"ABC Weekend Specials\" since I was a kid. It was usually on right after \"American Bandstand\" with Dick Clark. OG Readmore was on that show as well as he appeared on numerous PSA\'s back in the 80\'s. This show completely rips off \"The Wonderful World of Disney\" and other Disney anthology shows that has been on NBC for years on Sunday nights.

The intro for this is soooooooooooooo cool. I LOVE the theme music!

Willie Tyler is the Ventriloquist. His puppet is Lester. He has a website, www.willieandlester.com . They were the first to appear on David Letterman\'s ventriloquist week this year. He is my favorite ventriloquist. I couldn\'t stand O.G. Readmore. He wasn\'t fun nor funny to me.

I remember the green guys, the story was The Land of OG, I beleive.
    BC_Anselmo Posted 7 years 8 months ago
this had many different host for the show, I think the last one was with captain O.G. Readmore, yet the ones that I thought were the best was the ones with the ventriliquist, despite not remembering their names.

I remember watching this on Saturday afternoons at my grandmother\'s house. It brings back memories. I remember one story they played...I believe it was a two-part story, about these green creatures that lived underground or something like that. It was a scary story to me back then.

i always loved when i was younger, watching the faces and characters appear out of the book and the music was really cool

Sucks ABC doesn\'t do this anymore. I used to love watching the ABC Weekend specials. These kids lack a lot of cool ABC-themed stuff now...like Schoolhouse Rock, the Weekend Specials, etc.
