I loved GoBots as a kid! Of course I was a huge Transformers fan too but I always appreciated the GoBots. Of course I had the toys. Oh man, this is going back over 20 years. Good times.

Yet another show that I tell people about and NO ONE BELIEVES ME!! I liked it. . . even though it was a poor man's Transformers.

Also Cap Gobots were out an entire year before Transformers were.
The first Gobots commercial, as I recall it, aired in 1983 while the first Transformers commercial aired in 1984.

Well, marketing is one reason why the Gobots failed. The other reason why Gobots failed is because general interest in Gobots dropped as soon as the Transformers came on to the market. Tonka made Super Gobots, so Hasbro gave the Transformers their gessalts, combiners, Transformers had Autobot City, so the Gobots had their ships, and so on and so forth in a vicious cycle of "our product line is better than your product line so just give it up because you'll never win."
The only thing that I found that was good about COTGB is the way that the female characters were handled personality-wise. It was nice to see females take control of certain situations because back in 1984 you didn't really see females in anykind of leadership roles. In other words they weren't just there to be eye candy. The female Gobots had more than just being eye candy on their minds.

is this like a rip off of transformers?
    arachknight1979 Posted 7 years 6 months ago
The problem with G0-Bots was the marketing. They wern't marketed very well untill Hasbro released Transformers. That's when Tonka ripped of Transformers' concept. that's where they failed. Go-Bots were about the same size as Hotwheels and Matchbox cars ans should have been marketed as such. THere were a BUNCH of Go-Bots and they came in about every shame and form you could think of. Jets, motorcycles, cars, even a steam locomotive. They could have appealed to the kind of collectors market that Hotwheels had.

    Whoah, what's up with the rock-lords in the 2nd & 3rd into?
ScottTrakker Posted 7 years 8 months ago
As it was explained on the cartoon, by transforming into a Jet Leader 1 was able to fly at sound speed.
Well ok,transformers was better but go-bots was a nice cartoon too...
Celeste Posted 7 years 9 months ago
Oh gawd! Who uploaded that horrible Go-Bots Transformers intro? Those are NOT Gobots and they never will be. At least H-B got the animation right.
Doniell Posted 7 years 10 months ago
I had a comic book of the Transformers vs the Go Bots. I think we all know the outcome of that battle...

    LMFAO@Dubbs

Thay killed each other at the in end of tha intro
Celeste Posted 8 years 4 months ago
muskrat. Those cheap ass toys that they tried to pass off as Gobots are not Gobots as far as that's concerned. Playskool wouldn't know what a Gobot was even if it jumped up and bit them square in the ass.
GungHo Posted 8 years 9 months ago
    The GoBots did suck ass...
I dunno where you come from but on Planet Earth, the transformers rocked the house..
mastamark Posted 8 years 9 months ago
Actually the Go bots came first. Transformers was indeed a rip off of a failing franchise. They thought they could take the whole transforming robot to a whole new level. The story behind the toys(which came first) was just better.
SummertmeBrews Posted 8 years 9 months ago
Haha I didnt catch that before but they shoot lasers from their hands, Holy Cow this is too much LOLOLOLOL what a Rip-Off haha
SummertmeBrews Posted 8 years 9 months ago
This was such a joke even when i was a kid, nobody was going to fool the wool over my eyes. GOBOTS SUCKED ASS, PERIOD!
    The_D Posted 8 years 9 months ago
go bots was the imposter not as good as transfomers.. seriously
Arklier Posted 8 years 10 months ago
I believe the Go-Bots were actually around first. Transforming robots were pretty common in Japan at the time, such as the Diaclone toys that were repackaged later in the US as Transformers, for instance. I remember reading a book on the US toy business that compared the two lines, with the Tonka rep saying that they opted to go with toys that were simpler to transform thinking that parents wouldn't buy toys that they didn't think their children could transform by themselves. Unfortunately, it was the wrong decision, and a few months later Hasbro made a deal with Japanese toy giant Takara to bring the Diaclone line to the US under the name Transformers, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I don't recall the Gobots making it very far, but I'll give them credit for trying. I never was big into The Gobots or The Transformers. I was more interested in He-Man and G.I.Joe. When we kids used to pretend to be part of a cartoon series, it was easier to portray more human-like characters, than robots.

    I was that one kid.
    robmon300 Posted 9 years 2 months ago
ooooooooooooh damn. hahaahaaaa you did not go there dude.
neba Posted 9 years 2 months ago
I used to like this show until two opposing alien factions known
as the Autobots and Decepticons shown how battles are really fought. Challenge of the Gobots? Heh, they lost .

And another thing: total knockoff and a poor man's Transformers (I'm talking dirt poor.) This was Superfriends drenched in Cybertronian juice. Somethings in life should have never been known.
    robmon300 Posted 9 years 3 months ago
    yeah rip-off the rip-offf.
