    I heard that the 2005 DVD release of The Outsiders is a directors cut from Francis Ford Coppola himself. There were many scenes that weren\'t shown in the original 1983 version of The Outsiders. The next time The Outsiders is released onto DVD, I hope it\'ll have both 1983 version and the 2005 DVD version.

    I own the book and the movie. We watched this in the 6th grade and read the book too. It was the first time I had ever seen any boys cry. but they did when Johnny died. When you watch it or read it, you know these boys at some level. You either have a friend that is like one of them or you are like one of them. In my group of girlfriends (We were all rabid fan girls) I was Ponyboy a bit of a daydreamer and really into sunsets. And my best friend was Dally she could be really mean when it suited her. We also claimed Ponyboy/C.Thomas Howell for me and Dally/Matt Dillon for her.

    This movie is great. It stays real to the book also. It also doesn\'t hurt that Rob Lowe was in it either.

    I think it\'s awfully darn ironic how Ponyboy starts smoking a cigarette at the hospital, when he was nearly killed by fire and smoke.

    Nature\'s first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leafs a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
    So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

    \"Nothing Gold Can Stay,\" by poet Robert Frost:

    The poem is about the loss of innocence (much like the book/film). The Outsiders film was addapted by Francis Ford Coppla from the 1960\'s book by S.E. Hinton. She was only sixteen when she wrote it.. amazing.

    I love that song \"Stay Gold\" by Stevie Wonder which is sung at the beggining and the end of The Outsiders.
