It would be a very long time before I'd actually see the movie. My first exposure was in a very influential book titled Cult Movies (and the subsequent two volumes as well) with a description and a couple stills. It wouldn't be until a compilation movie titled Terror In the Aisles where I'd see my first moving images (and on the big screen) of Leatherface attacking one of the male characters with hammer cracking his skull and then dragging the twitching body back into another room and then slamming the door. It was a thuroughly disturbing moment regardless of its brevity. I think I first saw it on a rather poor VHS copy and then many years later I did finally get to see it on the big screen. In the Cult Movies book there is comment that "it is too real for its own good" which a perfect perspective. It is a truly disturbing movie than (thankfully) has not a whole lot of actual gore. When that female character gets hung up on the hook we never see it but man do we feel it.

@verno I liked the newer one but this one is better. I think it's because of the reasons for making the films. The original is based (although not accurate) on true events and was feeding off the paranoia following the events. The newer one relied on the franchise name and sexuality (;) heeey there leatherface). The caster even chose a relativly attractive man to play the deformed villain....

The killer it was based on wasn't actually a chainsaw operator. Just liked the pieces.

The movie that proved to be quite shocking for its time. It is said that there were even some people who came out of the movie theater throwing up after seeing the trailer alone. The movie itself is based on 50s serial killer, Ed Gein. Leatherface is one of the greatest horror movie icons of all time next to Freddy, Jason, and Pinhead!
