Glad to hear I'm not the only one.. I can't wrap my head around how it got that rating in the 80's. How can a kids film have an innocent girl sent to a mental asylum and get electric shock treatment (& that's for starters)
Had many creepy dreams about those heads and the wheelers.. and pretty much everything. What an awesome film.

This movie is great. Gritty for Disney, the detail to it was neat. The damn wheelers still give me the creeps!

I like this movie. I like how dark and creepy it is.
Sierracore Posted 5 years 8 months ago
I love this movie! It's 3rd on my list. And, of course, like everyone else, I was terrified of the the Wheelers. I had to watch that part with my mom. I STILL have to watch that part with my mom. . .

This film is a markstone for Disney. You wouldn't expect they'd have the guts to make such a dark, Wonderful movie!

True it gave me a few shudders when I was a child. Mental Asylums, A Headless witch & of course the Wheelers!

Return To Oz, I Salute you! ^_^

This movie was kinda dumb. I mean Judy Garland was a teen in the Wizard of Oz. and in return to Oz Fairuza Balk is a little girl. which throughs off every thing and that pumpkin thing is weird.
    missmouth95678 Posted 7 years 6 months ago
Fairuza Balk also played in The Waterboy. :)

Sherly Temple didn't get it because she was signed with another lot, could not break her contract!
Return to Oz I remember watching it on Disney channel probably in 90? I was 5 and the "head" lady freaked me out the most.
I like the Scissor Sisters song too!

The Wheelies scared the crap out of me as a kid!! Those creepy guys with wheels insted of feet! This was a good movie! But Aunt Em and Uncle Henry were nice people, so I don't think they would have put Dorothy in a nut house... But other than that it's really good.
    servebot_1 Posted 8 years 3 months ago
in the book dorothy was really a little girl...and they pretty much based this movie on the book...and for a lil info sherly temple auditiond for the 1st wizard of oz...but garland got it...4got the reasons y....

I agree with servebot_1. I've read some of the original Oz books by L. Frank Baum (especially "Ozma of Oz";) and this movie is A LOT more faithful to them compared to the 1939 MGM musical. I also agree that Judy Garland is VERY overrated! Fairuza Balk was a more convincing Dorothy Gale. I don't know why they decided to use an adult to play the character of a child in the original movie, let alone why they had to make it some happy, jolly sing-along when the land of Oz is SUPPOSED to be a beautiful, but dark and scary place. Plus, the Oz that was built in 1939 looked like something out of a cartoon. The Oz in "Return to Oz" actually looks VERY realistic as if it could be an actual place. Still, I think that the two movies could've flowed better together if they hadn't made the 1939 movie a musical and stayed more true to the books like this one...

I never seen this movie. Wasn't this aslo known as The wizard of Oz 2? Or was a just a sequel to the Wizard of OZ? I really don't watch Old Movies that many times.

But I do enjoy watching old cartoons that were made in the 1920's through 1990's

I remember my grade school got to watch this movie at an end-of-school year assembly in May 1986 (I was in 5th grade), and I think I've caught it on TV once since then. Very nice contrast to the touchy-feely classic Oz movie...

    A great movie, higly underrated.

I pitty the parents that took their little kids to see this movie or plop them in from of the tv ecause they think it is like the wizard of oz...

I've been an Oz fan becuase of the first movie. After reading the books by Frank L. Baum i loved it even more. I just heard this movie through friends and at first i didnt even believe them that this exist. Then when i saw this on the net i was like WOW! So i got my self a copy (which was hard cause its soo rare) and man did i love this movie...its much closer to the books than the fist movie, in fact this is better than the first, Judy Gaerlan is soo overrated. just dont get it why it was a flop and everybody thinking that this was scary...Now this is a classic Disney movie!
