Unlike you two, I actually liked this movie. Mostly it was because at the time I had a bit of an obsession with Baba Yaga legends, and seeing one in animated form featuring one of my favorite cartoon characters at the time, WOW! THAT WAS AMAZING!
Especially since it followed the formula of a Baba Yaga legend- hero needs something from Baba Yaga, Baba Yaga gives hero three nearly impossible tasks, hero completes tasks, Baba Yaga gives hero what he/she needs. Seeing it all done so very well made me so happy!
Second off- Bartok the Magnificent was not a sequel, it was a SPINOFF! That is completely different from a sequel being that it does not follow the storyline of the first movie and focuses on another character. Was "Angel" a sequel of "Buffy"? No. It was a spinoff. Bartok the Magnificent is the same way. And it was a great spinoff! I don't remember it ever being advertised as a sequel to Anastasia- the commercials just said that "Bartok is back in an all-new adventure!" was Anastasia mentioned at all? Not really. So just take it as it is- a good spinoff. Not a sequel.
This was unnecessary, especially since it seems to take place in an alternate universe from Anastasia. But it did have a few funny lines and it was okay if you take it for what it was.
