The Tonight Show
Debut: September 27, 1954

The Tonight Show is NBC's late-night talk/comedy show and the first and longest running late-night talk show on television. Steve Allen was the very first host of the show in its 1954 debut followed by Jack Parr who took over in 1957, but it's longest and most well-known host is Johnny Carson, host from 1962 to 1992. Along with Carson, the show's announcer was the just as well-known Ed McMahon. Carson left the show after 30 years in 1992 and was replaced by Jay Leno. Leno would last until 2009 when he moved to a new prime time talk show called "The Jay Leno Show" while Conan O'Brien would take over the Tonight Show. In early 2010 NBC made changes to their late-night schedule which pushed "The Tonight Show" to a time slot after midnight, leaving poor ratings, and O'Brien to quit in protest. Leno returned to poor ratings but the show gradually improved. In February 2014, Jay Leno retired and the Tonight Show was officially taken over by Jimmy Fallon.
