The Upper Hand was a sitcom, produced by Central Television and broadcast by ITV from 1990 to 1996. The programme was adapted from the American sitcom Who's the Boss?. Like in the former series, an affluent single woman, raising a son with the help of her mother, hires a housekeeper only to have a man apply for the job. The programme ran for seven series runs, first broadcast on 1 May 1990. It starred Joe McGann as househand Charlie Burrows and Diana Weston as business woman Caroline Wheatley. Charlie moved from London into Caroline's home with his daughter, Joanna, played by Kellie Bright (who had appeared in T-Bag). Caroline's son, Tom (William Puttock), also lived in the house which was visited frequently by her man-eating mother, Laura (Honor Blackman).
