My Own Private Idaho
Release: October 18, 1991

This is a character study of best friends Mike and Scott who are male hustlers. They both live on the street and do drugs while selling themselves to men and women both for sex. The character Mike is shy, gay, and suffers from the disease narcolepsy. His mother abandoned him as a child and he becomes obsessed with finding her. Scott comes from a well-to-do family and chooses to live this way only to embarrass his father. Mike is in love with Scott, but he maintains that he is straight and only living the way he does temporarily. It's partly a road movie when Mike and Scott set out in search of Mike's MIA mother. In Italy, Scott falls in love with a beautiful woman and ultimately leaves Mike for her. Mike never finds his mother and the two part ways. Mike later sees Scott after he has inherited money from his father who passed away. He seems unhappy.
