You Don't Say
Debut: January 01, 1963
Ended: January 01, 1979

You Don't Say! was original a local show in Los Angeles, airing on KTLA/channel 5 in 1962. It was so popular that it went national on NBC on April 1, 1969. The original show had two celebrity/civilian teams giving clues as to the identity of the fames of famous people or places. The clues were sentences with the last word left out, and that last word sounds like part of the name. Correct identification of the name scored a point; three points wins the game and allows the team to go to the bonus board. Here the player has up to three clues to guess the name. Getting it on the first clue is worth $500, getting it on two clues is worth $250, and all three clues is worth $100. You Don't Say! was canceled on September 26, 1969, but returned on ABC on July 7, 1975 in a new version. Here, two contestants select to receive clues from a panel of four celebrities. Identifying the name was worth $200 for getting it right on on the first clue, $250 on the second clue and $100 on the third. The first player to $500 wins the game and goes for up to $5000 in the bonus game. The player now gives clues to a selected celebrity. Getting four name on up to five clues wins $5000 (later in the run, getting four names on four clues doubled the jackpot to $10,000). This version lasted to November 26, 1975 and was later revived in syndication in 1978. Tom Kennedy hosted the NBC and ABC editions while Jim Peck hosted the syndicated show.
