BOB MC CALLISTER HOSTED (SONNY FOX WAS 1ST HOST) IT WAS A NEW YORK SHOW WITH KIDS IN AUDIANCE GAMES TO PLAY LIKE THE SNAKE CAN GAME TO WIN A BIKE! "Wonderama"actually began as a sunday afternoon comedy/variety kids tv show on WABD TV Ch.5 in NYC September 25,1955.Sandy Becker,"Capt.Video"(Al Hodge),Pat(Rica)Meikle and Melbourne Christopher were the first hosts.Sandy and the other hosts would leave the series a year later,and Herb Sheldon would become the program's second mc. Sheldon would host the show on sunday mornings from September 16,1956 to August,1958. Bill Britten would host the show for the remainder of the 1958 tv season. Sonny Fox would mc "Wonderama"on sunday mornings from January 4,1959 to August,1967. Bob McAllister would become the fifth and last adult host/performer of the series from August 11,1967 to December 25,1977. The last version of the series would become a kids tv news magazine and travelogue hosted by Laura Condon,Alana Brown,Dwight Williams,Bobby Clark, Pam Potillo,Claude Brooks,Laura McDonald,J.D.Roth and Emlio Estevez. "Wonderama"would be seen Sunday mornings from October,1980 to 1983..the show would move to saturday morning reruns from 1983..until it was cancelled in October,1987. "Wonderama"returned to tv..in an hour long version on The CW TV Network. Two brief holiday preview specials were seen during the Halloween and Christmas celebrations of 2016 on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC and on some of the CW affiliates. The series will officially debut in the winter of 2017...with singer:David Osmond as the series sixth adult host/performer.
