In San Francisco, the three Halliwell sisters are reunited in the grand Victorian home of their childhood: Prue, the oldest, is driven to succeed and dislikes the free-spirited antics of the youngest sister Phoebe. Piper, the earthy middle sister, mediates between her siblings.

Phoebe discovers The Book of Shadows in the attic and their witchly powers are activated. Prue gets the power to move objects, Piper to freeze time and Phoebe to see the future. The sisters must now work together to battle dark forces of the supernatural world.

Keeping their powers secret could prove a challenge, since Inspector Andy Trudeau, Prue's ex, is closing in on a serial killer preying on local witches. Piper narrowly escapes death when she discovers her white-bread boyfriend Jeremy, an evil warlock, is the killer. Sparks fly when the sisters try their first spell - Jeremy is vanquished, and they discover the power of three.

Phoebe can't resist a peek into the future. She and her sisters learn their first lesson in witchcraft - deadly deamons can come in any kind of package, including gorgeous male photographers.

In this episode, the sisters go back in time to save themselves from a warlock named Nicholas. They have to stop their mother, Patty, on making a deal with him before its too late. They get the chance to see their mother for she had died a tragic death. They also see young Prue and young Piper along the way. And Phoebe can finally get the chance to have some memory of Patty.
