This series brought army-style warfare to big-city
police work. S.W.A.T. stood for Special Weapons And
Tactics, whose job it was to tackle situations--usually
violent ones--that line police couldn't handle, with
whatever weaponry was necessary. Vietnam veterans
all, the S.W.A.T. squad dressed in semimilitary attire,
and were organized along the lines of a front-line
patrol. Lt. Harrelson was the C.O., Sgt. Kay the
observer and communicator, Jim the team scout, Dominic
the marksman, and T.J. the backup. Often the young
junior officers were a bit too eager to use their
firepower, and Harrelson had to hold them back. But
as often as not, it was blast away. The team
traveled in a specially equipped van.
