The Magic of Oil Painting is an American half-hour instructional television show hosted by painter Bill Alexander which ran from 1974 until 1982. In each episode, Alexander taught techniques for landscape oil painting, completing a painting in each session.
Bill Alexander was a teacher, mentor, and friend to famous TV painter Bob Ross. After Alexander's show died, Ross would become the host of a similar show of his own, the more well-known "The Joy of Painting".
