Misery
Release: November 30, 1990

Based on Stephen King's novel and from the makers who adapted "The Princess Bride", Rob Reiner's Misery cast James Caan as a writer at a career crossroads. The film opens with Paul Sheldon (Caan) completing work on his latest novel, a break from his popular series of novels featuring the character Misery Chastain. He gets into a severe car accident and is saved by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), a reclusive woman who nurses him back to health. Annie is a huge fan of the Misery novels, and she finishes reading the new one while Paul is convalescing. She becomes enraged when she discovers that Paul has killed off Misery. Annie injures Paul's foot severely so that he is unable to leave her house, and forces him to write a new Misery novel. A local sheriff (Richard Farnsworth) and Paul's agent (Lauren Bacall) both attempt to track down what happened to the missing author.

Quotes
Annie Wilkes: "He didn't get out of the Cock-a-doodie car!"
Annie Wilkes: "I thought you were good Paul,… but you're not good. You're just another lying ol' dirty birdy."
Annie Wilkes: "You! You Dirty Bird. How could You!"
Paul Sheldon: "What?"
Annie: "She can't be dead… Misery Chastain cannot be dead!"
Paul: "Annie… Sometimes during childbirth, women don't survive. But, Misery's Spirit is still alive. We shouldn't forget that."
Annie: "I don't want her spirit! I want her; and you murdered her!"
Paul: "No. I didn't."
Annie: "Oh, no. Who did?"
Paul: "She just died, Annie. She… She… slipped away!"
Annie: "[3x] "slipped away!"? Oh, no. You murdered her; You killed my Misery!"
Annie Wilkes: "Here's your pills."
Paul Sheldon: "Annie,… Annie, What is it?"
Annie: "The rain. Sometimes, it gives me the blues. When you first came here, I only loved the writer part of Paul Sheldon. Now, I know I love the rest of him, too. I know you don't love me, don't say "You do.". You're beautiful, brilliant, a famous man of the world and I'm… not a movie-star-type. You'll never know the fear of losing someone like me."
Paul: "Why would you lose me?"
Annie: "Book's almost finished. Your legs are getting better. Soon, you'll be wanting to leave."
Paul: "Why would I leave? I like it here."
Annie: "That's very kind of you, but I'll bet it's not all together true. [pulls out] I have this gun. [pulls trigger] Sometimes, I think about using it. I'd better go now. I might put bullets in it."
Paul Sheldon: "You know I never tasted meatloaf quite like this. What's your secret?"
Annie Wilkes: "My secret is: I always use fresh tomatoes, never canned, and to give it that extra zip: I mix a little Spam with the ground beef!"
Paul: "Can't get this in a restaurant in New York."
Annie: "Oh, no."
Annie Wilkes: "Now, the time has come. I put two bullets in my gun. One for me; and one for you. Oh, darling. It will be so beautiful."
