{"title":"Runaround","dateDebut":"1972","dateEnd":"1973","description":"\r\n This combination stunt and quiz show for kids\r\n\r\ndebuted on NBC TV in the fall of 1972.\r\n\r\n\r\n A group of youngsters ages 8 to 12 would listen to music\r\n\r\nor watch a comedy skit or a demonstration.\r\n\r\n\r\n And then they would be asked asked a question pertaining\r\n\r\nto the music or the situation that they had witnessed EG's\r\n\r\n\"Is a Sponge an animal,vegtabile or a mineral\",\"What film used\r\n\r\nthe song\"The Candy Man\"..Is it \"Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory\",\r\n\r\n\"The Wizard Of Oz\" or \"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!\"?\r\n\r\n\r\n The possible answers to the question would be shown on a lighted\r\n\r\ngame board on the other side of the studio.\r\n\r\n\r\n The kids would run to the game board and then the kids\r\n\r\nwould run all over the game board to prevent their oppenents\r\n\r\nfrom standing on the section that had the right answer.\r\n\r\n \r\n But after a few second..the host would say\"When you hear\r\n\r\nthe click..you gotto stick\"..When he clicked his little clicking\r\n\r\ndevice.\r\n\r\n \r\n The kids had to stop and stand on that part of the game board\r\n\r\n..that had the right answer.\r\n\r\n\r\n When they stayed on that spot..the host would call up to\r\n\r\nthe lighting director and ask\"All Right..Who is right with the\r\n\r\nlight\"?\r\n\r\n\r\n And the kids that stood on the spot that had the answer\r\n\r\nEG\"Animal\",\"Willy Wonka\" won that round and pick out\r\n\r\ntokens(Rubber ball)from a large glass bowl and place them\r\n\r\nin chutes near the seating section of the studio.\r\n\r\n\r\n Those kids that either moved off of the game board\r\n\r\nwhen the clicker was sounded or who didn't get the right\r\n\r\nanswer..had to sit in th penalty box..until they would be\r\n\r\ncalled out and they had to answer another question based \r\n\r\nupon their knowledge on a certain subject\"How many presidents\r\n\r\nserved in The White House..before 1945\"?\r\n\r\n\r\n The kid who is able to answer the most questions and\r\n\r\nobtain the most tokens..would win a collection of toy prizes\r\n\r\nand a trip with their family to either Hawaii,NYC or to Canada.\r\n\r\n The show was not a hit and it left the air after one season.\r\n\r\n\r\n Ventriloquist Paul Winchell was the series host and more\r\n\r\noften than not.\r\n\r\n\r\n He would have his puppet pals:\"Jerry Mahoney\" and\r\n\r\n\"Knucklehead Smiff\"perform a comedy skit that would lead\r\n\r\ninto the questions that were posed to the contestants.\r\n\r\n\r\n This was Paul Winchell's last regular on camera\r\n\r\ntv stint.\r\n\r\n\r\n Following the cancellation of\"Runaround\"..he\r\n\r\nwould confine his tv efforts to doing voice overs for\r\n\r\ncartoons and commercials and doing guest appearances\r\n\r\non tv talk shows and specials.","leadImageMedUrl":null}
