    Ohh.....

I really miss the SEGA I know and love...

The SEGA that made quality consoles such as the Megadrive and Saturn.

All that magic is gone. SEGA have ruined themselves and made a turn for the worse; they don't make their own consoles anymore.
They've changed, making games for consoles that aren't theirs.
That sucks. I want the REAL SEGA back.
Not the FAKE SEGA of nowadays.
    Sonic on Playstation 2?!? WTF?!?
That is SO NOT the Sonic I know and love.
SEGA NEED to do another console. One as powerful as (but more affordable than) the Playstation 3.
    CONSOLE SEGA, WHERE ART THOU?!?

anyone agree with me that the SEGA we know and love needs a comeback?

While I agree that Sega isn't up to what they used to be, it's not because they're making games for other consoles. That really doesn't matter much, and they've been doing it from the beginning. I have SEGA games on my Atari 2600, my Intellivision, my NES, and SNES. All of them are official. I also know of several official Sega releases on the PC and on the TurboGrafx-16. Almost all of these were made while Sega was also trying to promote their various game consoles.

          Sega's games are suffering because:
            1) They've been having financial problems for years, meaning smaller development budgets, despite the rising cost of developing games.

            2) Key developers and designers at Sega have left the company to work elsewhere, including Yuji Naka, former leader of Sonic Team.

            3) Sega has been purchased/merged with Sammy, and as a result has been going through drastic internal organizational changes, including the dissolution of nearly every internal development team. Nobody who is still making games for Sega is still working with the team they're used to working with.

If they still made their own console hardware, they'd have all of the same problems, except that their budgets would be even worse. That's why they stopped. If you don't like it, you should have got more of your friends to buy a Saturn and a Dreamcast. It's far too late now.

            yeah...

the only reason why the stopped manufacturing hardware/console is because they were getting their a*ses kicked in the Video Game Console market.

            Here, read this...its from Wikipedia:

However, the Dreamcast failed to recapture the market share lost to Sony's PlayStation and other "next-gen" systems including Nintendo's N64. This was in part due to a lack of faith in the system after the 32X and Saturn systems.

see...they kept getting their a*ses handed to them because of this...why did they stop making hardware?

because if this continued (if they made more systems) they would lose tons of money. if they made another system, SEGA probably wouldn't even be around right now.

and yes, i agree. i miss the old sega as well. hell, i still play Genesis. but, SEGA stopped this for the better.

Sega has always been a software developer as well, as flamepanther mentioned above. Sega always made great games, but they were really hit or miss with their hardware, obviously leaning a bit more to the miss side.

Alas, the Dreamcast will forever reamin Sega's last hardware venture. It sucks yes, but there is a great library of games that remains across all of those platforms that you can still enjoy.

It's not so much Sega that I miss as it is Sonic. If they can't win me over with Wildfire, it's over for good.

                2) Key developers and designers at Sega have left the company to work elsewhere, including Yuji Naka, former leader of Sonic Team.

Did Yuji happen to leave between Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2? SA was decent, but it was SA2 where things started to go wrong. It would be interesting if it was also when he left too.

I think SEGA should come up with a new console almost as creative as Nintendo's Wii (although not an exact copy) .
I hope the Playstation 3 fails, which it should due to it's rediculous £425 price tag!
The PS2, Xbox, and even the Neo Geo AES were cheaper than that on day 1!

the Wii is not a SEGA console. It is a Nintendo console of which SEGA games can be downloaded too.

No, this is recent. He was still with Sonic Team when work started on the two next-gen Sonic games, and supposedly did at least some work on them before quitting.

Sega DID start getting really desperately strapped for cash between Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 though. That means Sega wasn't able to hire as many developers to work on Sonic Adventure 2 or give them as much time to work on it. I thought Sonic Adventure 2 tried to be a better game in a lot of ways, but it felt even more unfinished than most other Sonic games, which are usually rushed and somewhat unfinished in the first place.

Again, if Sega didn't stop making console hardware, this would have gotten even worse by now. I think they still do manufacture arcade hardware. I know they did recently at least. The Naomi 2 arcade hardware is probably what would have become the next console after Dreamcast.

Now that you mentioned it, a new Megadrive/Genesis game DID come out a while back, called "Beggar Prince"
It is an RPG similar to those on the Super Nintendo.

                            http://www.beggarprince.com/

Have to say that I skipped the Sega-front completely, since my parents could afford only one system at that time. But if you think of Sega's fate, the same might be waiting for Nintendo...

Not if the Wii can help it!
The Wii promises to change videogames forever!
The Playstation 3 will most likely fail at £425.

I'd rather buy a launch day Neo Geo AES.
Not just because that was cheaper on launch day, but seriously, I like the Neo Geo AES.

That makes sense. I thought SA2 was a good enough game, though, but it had a few mistakes. I just let it slide knowing they were just trying something new, but when they only multiplied it in Heroes, still didn't learn in Shadows, and appear to be continuing on with the same thing in the PS3/360 game I realise it was SA2 where it all started going down hill.[/quote]
