Don't get it. Buy a Nintendo Wii instead.

Maybe for roms but if you're planning on getting some great games for the PSP, think again. Also I've read an article that said the UMD format is dying and a lot of major movie companies aren't making movies for it anymore. But hey it's your choice, I would suggest a DS lite.

A PSP is fine if you don't care about original gaming. Or for some reason want to watch a feature film on a 3x5 screen.

Thats what I like to hear blue Blur, Frankly I dont care about "original games" Hell I havent played a game that was made after 1995 and I may watch the ocational movie on a random bus ride somewhere, but Roms and Music is really my main concern ^_^

I was pondering on getting a PSP.

But only beucase it has(or will have) two games that I really want.

The first being: Me and My Katamri?(not entirely too sire on the title), and the second one that will be coming out: Metal Sear Solid: Portable OPS.

I'm probably not gonna get it though .... because I have to save up for a PS3 and all that jazz.

great graphics and features and stuff
but most of their games for now are mostly rehashes of other games so I'd wait a while if i were to get something original...i dunno

The PSP is terrible as a music device. You'd be better off getting an ipod (or other type of dedicated player) and a DS Lite. There are a ton of accesories available that will let you play roms on a DS, most of them are done through the gameboy advance slot on the bottom of the DS.

The PSP has a surprising amount of (descent) classic video game ports, but that's just the thing, they're ports. Publishers should take a cue from Loco Roco and start doing something new and creative instead of dusting off their old PS1s or whatever.

Better let, they should just port Loco Roco to the DS.

PSP's are good for a few things.

Portable movie player: The screen is small and the sound can suck, but you can download or rip movies and shows and watch Jem and the Holograms at the office.

Beaten out by: Portable DVD player that plays AVI files.

Wireless internet access: Much better than the DS for playing over the internet. You can actually play games with opponents from all over, bot just people you have spoken to and gotten a code from and have set up an online meeting time. Man was I disappointed with the DS for that crap. I got Animal Crossing and never bought another multiplayer game for it again.

                          Beaten out by: Laptop Computer

ROMmage: You can play all sorts of your favorite games from the past on the PSP. There are all sorts of emulators out there that work great. The Ds can use emulators as well, but they are a huge pain to get in and set up. There is always the GBA flash cards, but then you could just use the GBA instead. You get a better range of emulators for the PSP.

Beaten out by: Nothing. There will be the Nintendo Revoluition (I will not call it the Wii. It had a great name and then they changed it to something nowhere near as catchy." but you will have to pay for those games, and there will only be certain games available. You can also play ROMS on a laptop, but you can't stick the laptop in your pocket, plus it's nicer to have video game controls instead of a keybard to play games. (Yes there are USB controllers but that's more stuff to carry around, thus it still does not beat the PSP.)

UMD movies aren't even an incentive to me, just get the DVD, rip it and play the ripped file on the PSP. Then you get the movie for your PSP and you get to play the movie on your DVD player. UMD movies would have been a great idea if they had pricemarked them at $5 or so.

My reccomendation is to go on Ebay and get a used PSP. They can do some neat things but they are still not worth the $200 they are at now.

i have a psp and it sucks, the laod tiem son allt he games are LONG and watching movies sucks on it. basically its a paper weight for me, and their value has dropepd tremdously already because of everyoen unloading them.

Please do not do it, just stick with a ds lite! the ds lite rules all. no load times and better games.

                              OK.. who moved this O.o;

Anyhow, as far as ROMs go, unless you can find a loophole in 2.6 firmware, don't even think about it. iirc, there is a downgrader for 2.0 to go back to 1.5 to play emus and ROMs, and 1.5.x should play your emus and ROMs just fine.

I also heard that like ipods, you have to update(well you don't really have to but ya)

if you were to get a psp, you should wait till it gets cheaper(if it gets cheaper) or find a used one thats not to bad...i dunno thats just me

Once you get your PSP, Careful when you are Downloading stuff on it because there is a chance of getting your PSP BRICKED which means to completely shut down you PSP and will never work again until you can get some to repair and another thing, upgrade to a 2.0 and nothing else.

I don't even know what a PSP looks like and I don't really care, but I bought a gameboy color when it came out and I still play it when I travel. Great piece of portable console: small, cheap and has an endless selection of games 8)
