I believe her name was Rita ("Ree-ta";).

Yeah they need to show the old ones, I'd probably just continuously laugh at the fact that I seriously watched it at one point.

This show was like a soap opera. I made fun of it myself until I got seriously hooked. Sad to hear about Thuy Trang (Trini the Yellow Ranger). She was much better than that talentless young lady they brought in to replace her (Aiyisha?).

I really want them to release the episodes on DVD. I pretty much stopped watching by the time Power Rangers ZEO came along, so everything before I want to pick up.

My favorite episode is actually the miniseries where all the parents of Angel Grove are captured and the Power Rangers get tricked into handing over their Power Coins to Goldar in a bargain for their parents. Of course, once he has the coins, he doesn't deal. Essentially, all the rangers lose their ability to morph and they must resurrect Tommy's powers (as the Green ranger) as he's the only one that still has a power coin. The finale of this miniseries has Tommy once again commanding the Dragon Zord in a last bid to recover the power coins and rescue the parents of Angel Grove. I remember cheering Tommy on during this episode.

I was actually quite disappointed when Tommy was revealed as the White Ranger. There was speculation on message boards for weeks about who would be the White Ranger, and the writers even added a new minor character to give all of us a red herring (though his name escapes me at the moment). I like Tommy and all, but they were playing this up as it would be an all-new ranger.

I used to love the rangers when I was a kid, well, still do now in some ways. As long as we are talking about the original "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers", as they were the best. Well, sort of. OK... so every episode was kinda the same up until the Green Ranger entered, and shortly returned to this formulae once he became a "goodie".
I was always impressed at how the Green Ranger - Tommy (Jason David Frank: Parents were obviously allergic to surnames), always made the exact same fight noizes. I believe it went something like, ahem...
            "Hurke Zeeke Huwaar!!!"

I must admit, that even to this day, the "Zords" look awesome. I did have Voltron as a kid, but even I wanted a Deluxe Megazord set. Good ol' ebay.

I think its good that they recast and reissue Power Rangers for the youth of Today, but they will never replace Jason, Trini, Zach, Billy, Kimberly, and Tommy...
Go go Power Rangers... It's Morphin' Time!

I have found my people that love the rangers as much as I do. I loved the action growing up as a kid. It even motivated me to learn martial arts at my school. Which reminds me, I really need to get back into that. Anyway, JDF is hot, but they fail to mention the hotness of one Johnny Yong Bosch. Just the fact that he makes me giggle when he says pieces makes my day.

Tommy seemed to make the same fighting noise all the time, as Cannonball_Jim mentioned. It sounded more like "Hut-sit, hyaaa!" to me.

we need to get a patition together to send prince lotor over to just destroy all the ranges and there spin offs.
the new one with the magic and swords and shields if that isn't a ripoff of 'king author and the knights of justice' then i'm going crazy.

i watched all of 2 or 3 episodes and only for amy-jo johnson. but honestly what guy didn't want to check her out?

My main memory of Power Rangers was the amount of hype that went into the debut of the series. There seemed to be a commercial for it every 10 seconds on Fox. My little sister and I were totally stoked about it - we had been big fans of TMNT and this sounded like it could be just as cool.

Then I remember actually seeing the debut episode. It was soooo cheesy! Something about an outerspace dumpster on the moon that had cackling Rita in it. The fight scenes were obviously from some different show entirely. I was completely let down, but it became such a huge hit with everyone about a year or two younger than me. It was everywhere. That was the moment when I realized definitively that I had become too old to watch children's tv shows.

Thanks a lot, Power Rangers. You forced me to grow up!

You can buy MMPR Seasons 1-3 on http://www.Amazon.de (the Germany http://www.amazon.com). Hopefully, marketers will get the bright idea to sell DVD boxsets to Americans too, I don't see how Disney (who owns PR now) doesn't see how much profit they would get out of this, but anyway.

A few years ago, Austin St. John hosted a Power Rangers history show, and during this feature they showed the never-before aired first episode where there WAS no Trini, but instead a hispanic girl who was fought as well as Tommy. She wasn't lame and awkward out of costume, like Kimberly was...she was awesome. The episode also showed punches and kicks to the face...a Saban no-no. I wish I'd recorded it. Oh yeah, and Zordon was called "Zartron". lol

It was both Austin St. John and Walter Jones that hosted the special, and I remember it. The pilot episode was also mentioned and shown in the PowerMorphicon presentation by Tony Oliver. There WAS Trini, just a different actress playing her. She wasn't hispanic, she was French/Black, the actress' name was Audri DuBois. I did this kind of a short clip video of both Trini's "fighting", I know its lame but I was bored. It could of been better, lol. Thuy Trang was a good fighter in her own right, but I did kind of prefer the original original yellow better myself.

I didn't think Kimberly was 'lame' out of costume, she had really nice gymnastics skills, and Amy Jo Johnson herself is an elite gymnast, and so was David Yost (Billy). Which is what I like about the original cast, they all did their own stunts and had a background of martial arts, gymnastics, and/or dance.

I loved the original, Pink was the one I liked and I always pretended I was the red one. My cousins and I pretended we were the power rangers, it was so much fun.

I'm new to this thread. After 1957 Godzilla the supermonster was turned into supersized superheroes in Japan. Many series were aired and were quite popular. The poor old USA didn't get any of them until 1965-1966 when the original Ultraman appeared as a syndicated series. Like Astroboy, Ultraman was only a glimpse of the incredible tv shows in Japan. There were other superheroes through the early 1970's but Ultraman is the only one I remember.

With the rise of live-action kids tv in the 1980's talk of reviving a "Japanese" style superhero series seemed like a good idea. Remember Japan and the USA were closer than ever during the 80's as friends and competitors. Since the Power Rangers were already going strong in Japan deals with Haim Saban resulted in the Power Rangers in the USA by 1994. No doubt in my mind the Power Rangers are a direct link to Ultraman as a live action series. (Cartoon series like Voltron are way too numerous and occupy their own universe of programming).

I'll never forget Ultaman. Trouble is, so few remember him.

Jason, Trini and Zack all left as the actors wanted a pay rise. Appernetly they would come into work late but they must have sorted things out with the actor who played Jason as he came back as Gold Ranger. At the time I wished he stayed longer as he rocked.

Ok RJ, I'm not done yet. By now everyone at RJ knows I can get passionate at times over a tv show. Well the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is one of my favorites.
At first I watched to see my new sweetie babe Trini. Wanna break an old guy's heart, dump Trini! Oh yeah, I had it bad for Trini. In my mind Trini and I would hold hands over a Baskin-Robbins hot fudge sundae after every episode. Ahh, life is sweet!
And then I saw hot shot Zack. Bam! Watch my boy Zack busta move. Wow, could that Zack move like a cat! He was a living slinky, all business and no toy!
But what sealed the deal was Rita. Yes, Rita Repulsa! Everyone at RJ knows that action series sink or swim because of the villians. The right villian is GOLD, and Rita was gold to me.
What was up with that hair, horn, helmet, mixup mess on her head? Check out the freakazoid makeup job, could crack the tv screen. And her clothes!
Why the creepy, muu-muu like "no I'm not having a baby" maternity ugly gown?
Why? Because for Rita Repulsa it all worked. She was crazy ugly fun!
I had to tune in each week to see her look through that telescope, blink and smile that Friday the 13th smile! LMAO!
If the Christmas stealin Grinch had a mom, it was Rita!
Guess it's just my lot in life to love a series only to watch it morph before my eyes.

They were good until they changed to "zeo" or something like that.
