Can i just comment on how rediculously hard in general NES games were when they first game out. It was a time before developers knew about the concept of degree of difficulty. With the help of emulators, many NES games are now beatable, classics like Ninja Gaiden. But many games are actually impossible to beat without the help of Game Genie, for instance, Abadox, and everyone's favorite Battle Toads. Battle Toads is interesting, because even with the help of Game Genie, it is borderline impossible (I should comment I saw a kid named Chris Browning beat it with the help of Game Genie, but he had to leave his Nintendo on for two days because it took that many tries).

I've named three uber-hard games, what do you guys think are the hardest NES games?

That's funny. I've always thought about how gamers have become soft, lazy, and unskilled. Ninja Gaiden was already beatable without cheating. Battle Toads wouldn't be so hard if it wasn't so buggy.

Anyway, I think we had this thread already not too long ago. Check that one out and then add your own thoughts to it :)

I liked when games were more challenging. I actually beat both Ninja Gaiden and Battle Toads without the use of cheat codes. People use cheat to beat a game are not true gamers.

I beat Battletoads in a few hours with Game Genie. However, it was a few years after I had gotten Game Genie, because I had an outdated book that didn't contain Battletoads and had to borrow my friend's book. And about the cheating thing, I think you shouldn't brag about how great of a gamer you are if you cheat all the time, but when you purchase a game you don't intend on playing it and being stressed out because you're constantly dying. You buy a game for one main reason: Entertainment. If you feel that cheating would make the game more entertaining, then by all means cheat. However, I am completely against cheating in online games whereby your actions can ruin someone else's playing experience.

Cheating levels the playing field. I have yet to find a video game that does not cheat, and by granting the gamer the ability to cheat back just saves people from breaking controllers.

Yeah yeah, we all know that there's always someone who has beaten (insert game). I'm just saying NES had a lot of very hard games, granted I was only 5 or so when the NES was prominent. Seriously though, the shooter Abadox, download it and try beating it without cheating. It's impossible.

Maybe its just that my reflexes were at thier peak back at the time of the Atari 2600, but I can list all the games I have beaten on Nintendo on two hands. None were really action games either. Every Mega man game has given me trouble and I have yet to beat them.

I have an issue of Blip(The Video game magazine made by Stan Lee) that says if you get far enough in Pac-man(Arcade) You'll come to a broken key screen, which is impossible to win at.

Blaster Master. If you can beat that game, I take my hat off for you. It's virtually impossible for me to beat the world 6 boss. I still can't work out a pattern that works. The fact that the game slows down at this point does not help.

I kick butt at Contra. My friends are in awe of my mad shooting skills.

You want to talk about an impossible NES game?

                                    Ghosts and Goblins

The one that started the whole franchise, before it was Ghouls N Ghosts it was Ghosts and Goblins. You cannot win at this game. It was hard enough to beat Ghouls N Ghosts on the sega, but after three days we did. We tried Ghosts Nand Goblins and I came up with my own theory of what happened at Capcom headquarters:

Bob: Hey, Jim. Looks like we're running out of money. No one is buying our games and we might have to close your branch. Looks like Ghosts and Goblins is your last game.

Jim: Then this game shall be an electronic middle finger to those who oppose us!!
                                    "Now it makes me sad

Bob: Good ot meet you, I'm Bob McMarketer.

                                        Jim: Peace bro, Jim Programgramerson

Bob: E.T. is a runaway hit in the theatres, we need to capitalize on this popularity. The thing is after getting the rights to the game we only have $3.00 left.

Jim: No prob, Bob. I, like, have this totally awesome idea for a game. It's just a short walk and then a series of holes you fall into and never get out of. I put a happy flower in the hole so they have something to interact with. The game doesn't go anywhere after that, but the players will think it's their fault they can't get out of the whole, not my lack of programming the rest of a game.

Bob: Egads man! You're going to go places in this industry!
