Especially buy it's price alone From what game developers who have seen the technology and are making games for it have said, the PS3 will not be any more amazing than the 360 in terms of graphics or physics, and will be substantially less amazing than the Wii in terms of providing a new game experience. That's a lot more credible than some rumor you might have heard.
Sony has a proven history of lying about their consoles before release in order to create a buzz. Before the release of the PS2, they were claiming it was practically a supercomputer, and that their "Emotion Engine" chip would completely change gaming forever. They made claims that it would be difficult to export the PS2 from Japan because it was such a powerful computer that it would be dangerous in the wrong hands. It would be hard to defend anyone who still believes any of that. The PC I already had was at least as powerful as a PS2, which ended up being less powerful than Gamecube or Xbox. Worse, Sony actually released fake screenshots and videos of PS2 games that looked far better than the real thing, claiming that's what the games would really look like.
Last year, Sony again released some amazing pictures and videos of upcoming PS3 games, and promised us that they were 100% real, and that the games would look just as good when the system came out in 2006. This year at E3, there were playable demos of some of these very same games. Surprise surprise, they look nowehere near as good as last year's "real" footage. In fact, they don't even look any better than the Xbox 360's games. I guess some of us haven't learned our lesson from the past though.
