I was watching the intro to it on the homepage and it is nothing like how I remember it. The cartoon image shown is how I remember it though.

Maybe it's from the Commercials? I remember the cartoon and commercials but not the theme song(s).
the intro was with the kid taking off the handcuff off that little monster and the big gay sunglasses wearing queer monster was chasing the little monster

The Intro of My Pet Monster here at R.J. is actually the movie intro. Not the cartoon intro, if I remember correctly.
There is a big difference between the movie and cartoon of My Pet Monster.
In the movie the kid Max is a sissy boy who is also slow and sloppy. Until one day he, his sister, and his school class take a field trip to a museum. After there tour Max looked at one of three monster statues that had magic that would give them powers to transform into monsters. So Max looks into one of the statues in the eyes and became a strong and tough monster with blue and purple fur.
In the cartoon the kid Max goes to a toy store and finds a new stuff toy which is a monster with orange hand cuffs. After Max buys it he takes it home and takes off those orange hand cuffs and the stuff toy monster comes to life. Max didn't give his pet monster a name so he just called him "Monster."
Man! My Pet Monster was deffinatly 80's!

Same here. I remember the weird curse and the giant blue monster and stuff... and some evil guy I think was after them. They have copies selling on eBay on a pretty steady basis. I really should pick on up some day...
