      Ahhhhhhh Saturday Mornings.

Nothing defined being a kid for me more than my brother and I setting up our sleeping bags in the living room right in front of the TV on Friday nights, Having our cereal ready to go in the kitchen (my cereal of choice was alway Freakys or Moonstones) Then getting up around 6:00AM for a morning full of cartoon goodness!

Here's a really cool site the documents Saturday mornings by year. ENJOY!

      http://www.tvparty.com/sat.html

      My personal favorite year? 1976!!

This year brought The Kroft Super Show, Arc II, Shazam/Isis hour, Looney Tunes & The Pink Panther among others! Oh, and don't forget Land of the Lost!!!

      Thems were the days...

Saturday Mornings are virtually non-existent over on these shores nowadays. It's literally Tom & Jerry Kids and that old crappy Spiderman cartoon along with loads of preschool stuff. Ivor the Engine pops up ocassionally, if lucky. Or unlucky as the case may be...

Hey, that old Spiderman cartoon rules. I like how the transition sequences of Spiderman swinging around the city are the same stock animation in every episode. :D

I agree, Saturday morning cartoons are still here but they SUCK. Kids cartoons in general are sliding. Fox Kids is dead, CBS is dead, cable's taken over, the anime generation has taken over, 4 Kids, ABC, Kids WB are the only ones left and I just cant watch any of that shit.
                WHAT?

I remember setting the alarm for 6 am so I could watch cartoons all morning. TMNT, Spiderman, X-men, Beast Wars, and so on.
Seems like I was the only person who watched Beakman's World and Bill Nye the Science Guy, though.
I hate most of the shows that are on now. ABC and FOX seem to be the only ones running cartoons anymore. And most of those annoy me. But, every time I turn it to NBC or UPN, they are running one of the judge shows. Or another talk show. Yuck.
Anime is really a matter of personal preference. I know lots of people that hate it, but I love it. Probably because I watched Kimba, Samurai Pizza Cats, and The Last Unicorn when I was young, and my mother's mother would bring me stuff from Japan sometimes. Ah, childhood.
The stations are running anime because that is what the kids seem to want. I know it's a major market now, but wasn't anime not much of a thing a little ways back? Supposedly, it was really inexpensive to buy the rights, dub it, and air it. Just keep running something in the same genre, or same style, and eventually people will watch it.

For me Sat morn cartoons ended in the late 80's early 90's. ABC, NBC and CBS would run them from 6 - 12.. When they stopped doing that everything went to shit.
I was never a fan of WB or FOX's attempts at Sat morn toons.

I would hope you are trying to express that the shows are anime which just so happens to be crap, and not that they are crap because they are anime, because I happen to be an anime fan, and one thing I hate is to see people bashing anime because all they've seen are badly butchered dubbed crap and suddenly think that the entire style is like that.

And many times, its not that the anime itself is bad, it is that what the american censors and chopshops butchered it into that was bad. One of the animes on saturday mornings these days that fits this bill is Mew Mew Power. The stuff we get here is so bad it HURTS to watch. However, it had a completely differant story in Japan. Over here it's some kind of romance comedy and overly cute sayings. In the original version, it was essentially an anime Captain Planet.

Other than that, saturday morning cartoons died in the 90's, and never really ressurected.

Most of the new Sat-cartoons seem too soft and too kiddy for me! and kinda repetative..oh well
but the only ones I do like are

                                The Batman
                                TMNT
                                and thats pretty much it...

Saturday mornings haven't been the same since NBC took it's cartoon lineup off the air in the early 90's. Also I have said this before cable has something to do with it too. Here an article that explains:

Although I miss the old shows I don't really care how the current line-ups turn out. I'm still mad at how TMNT ended. Another stupid cliffhanger and they aren't even going to resolve it on tv, instead they are putting that stupid TMNT: Flash Forward show on in it's place. I'm not going to bother getting up for that piece of trash when it begins to air.

You know, lately I've been watching some old tapes of the Fox Spider-Man show, the UPN Hulk show and the Marvel Action Universe. As I watch them I wonder, why don't they make shows like this anymore?? What ever happened to the excellent animation and the action-packed, exciting story telling of the Marvel shows and the DC shows? Why are the crude animation, piss-poor storytelling and boredom packed shows of yu-gay-oh, zatch bell, fosters house, The Batman, Teen Titans the norm now?

The only show I've been seeing on saturday mornings lately is DIC's Archie's Weird Mysteries and the animation and stories of that show actually entertain me to a point. Sometimes I wish the old shows would actually go back into production and air on tv again, not cable but actual local television in syndication blocks.

When ABC dropped The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show, I thought that was the final nail in the coffin for Saturday morning cartoons, thus closing the book on that era. And that happened in 2001.

Now, it seems like Saturday morning lineups these days, are more like the TGIF lineup from the late 80's and early 90's or PBS.

Taking a closer look at Saturday mornings on the major networks, the original 3 air a Saturday edition of their morning news shows. ABC then aired golf after that. And I watched some show on NBC, which looked like a teen version of Lost.

Kids WB is the closest thing to what Saturday morning cartoons was, which isn't saying much. Even so, I find myself remembering when Kids WB didn't depend on anime for their lineups, although I did enjoy watching Pokemon and Cardcaptors for a while.

I'll admit, I did enjoy watching some of the TNBC shows (like Saved By the Bell and California Dreams).

But that pales in comparsion to getting up in the morning, and turning on the TV and Snorks was on at the time, which came on before Smurfs, on NBC.

Yeah, I have noticed it, too. They still play our old favorites on cable during the week, but in a way, it's not the same :(
