Okay, I went to Homeland today to cash my check like always. Well, on my way out of the shopping center, I glanced over at the Salvation Army store and decided to go in there on a whim.

I walked in, and the shelves of VHS tapes were the first thing I was drawn to. So I walk over there and I see that familiar blue box with yellow letters...

It's a copy of Scruffy, the most depressing children's movie ever. I haven't seen this movie in at least ten years. I used to own a copy when I was a kid, and I remember liking it but now that my memory is refreshed thanks to the article on here, I'm wondering why I ever watched this. Nevertheless, I couldn't help snatching it up.

Anyway, check it out. On Ebay, the only copies I could turn up were UK versions in PAL format. The US version doesn't even show up.

On Amazon I got two results. Since there's very little info, I'm not sure what the difference is between the two, but some copies go for upward of 30 bucks!

Well, back to the rest of the story.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see more yellow letters on a nearby shelf. I rush over to have a look and there they are, glimmering like golden nuggets in the afternoon sun.

Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The Star Wars Trilogy. The ORIGINALS. On VHS.

I grabbed all three and looked them over. The cover art is the same as the original movie posters. The boxes are in excellent shape, looking almost brand new. The seal on Return of the Jedi is unbroken, meaning this tape has NEVER BEEN PLAYED. EVER. I check the dates on the boxes, these were released in the early 90s. Not too terribly old.

Actually, ROTJ looks like it was released earlier. The date on the back says 1990 and the label is CBS/FOX, which doesn't exist anymore (as it became Fox Video). The other two are dated 1992. Empire says Fox Video on the side, but still has the CBS/FOX logo on the back. Star Wars says Fox Video on the sides and the back. Interesting. It looks like they might have been released in reverse order or something.

On Amazon, the prices for the ROTJ video vary greatly...ranging from a penny to 20 dollars. The copy I have could possibly go for about 15 or 20, since it's never been played. But anyway, this release seems to be pretty common, it turned up three pages of results.

Empire is less common, going for $.60-$20.00 and only turning up one page of results.

Star Wars seems to be the rarest of the three, going for $2-$20. There are only 11 available on Amazon and some of those listed are the 1997 SE, not the original version. (The two that are listed at 89 and 199 dollars are probably a different version from mine.)

Anyway, total money spent? Seven dollars. I'd say the Force was with me today.

        I remember Scruffy.

The dogs seemed rather similar to those from "Lady and the Tramp" but it was NOTHING like that.
