I also think a live-action voltron movie is a bad idea.
HOWEVER!
Producers are usually the ones who can either make or break a movie. And Mark Gordon is not exactly one who slouches when it comes to getting the people he needs to make a movie. Saving Private Ryan and Day After Tommorrow were both very well done. It's not about movie criticism, it's about who will get the right special effects team to assemble the movie.
Power Rangers was done with the same piss-poor special effects as the original godzilla. But the re-make of Godzilla made the concept a little more exciting, it's all about special effects with these things. Once they get a visually acceptable concept then they can work on the story.
Gordon wants this to be a big budget movie, hopefully he'll have a big enough budget to make this thing look badass.
The doubts that arise from this franchise is that there is definitely going to be a major push for toys. This also means the movie might be aimed towards kids more, simply because they want to sell more toys and make profits. Or perhaps they'll be able to work out that fragile balance of the star wars fanbase. Not too adult so that kids can't watch, but not too kiddy so that adults will be turned off. If they find the balance then they have a chance.
This is quite the task, but Gordon is a pretty good producer. Can't say much else until more is done.
