You can't forget the classics if you were never brought up around them or have knowledge about them.

There are other ways to forget things than "oh, this thing happened, and I was there, but I forgot". You "remember" your roots in any (sub)culture whenever you learn about the things that came before your time, give them their due respect, and keep in mind how they've influenced the present. When you fail to do these things while still reaping the benefits, you "forget". I'm 25, and even I "remember" games that are older than I am.

Of course I would hope nobody expects an eight-year-old to know what an Atari 2600 is from the moment he picks up his first PS2 controller to play Crash Bandicoot. However, by the time they know how to use the Internet and are claiming to be big Zelda/Castlevania/whatever fans they've already got access to a wealth of information on the classics, including bootleg downloads of the classics themselves. That sort of kid, the one who says he knows what these games should be like, can be expected to know what he's talking about before he opens his mouth (or types on his keyboard).

        I'm 41 and I wanna say:

Back in the day (the 80s), the games that ROCKED my world were "Donkey Kong" (where Mario was still just a carpenter and NOT a plumber!), "Phoenix" (My hands were a BLUR blasting those birds!) "Star Castle", "Tron", "Dragon's lair", "Joust", "Battlezone", and "Star Trek: The Tactical Operations Simulator" (WooooHOOOOOO!! Sitting in Kirk's chair...listening to Spock and Sulu's voices and all the sound effects from the show!!)

I MISS the old arcaders, BUT....in defense of the New Gen's games....there are games out now that wouldve made me lose my freakin MIND back then! LOL...I never wouldve left the HOUSE!!! I remember the old days and the inevitable question of "do the game's graphics look the same as the arcade version??",..now its more like "Can my machine even RUN this or do I need an upgrade?" LOL!!!!

Let's NOT denigrate the "new kids", but CELEBRATE the fact that video games, gaming and gamers have survived and thrived despite all the naysayers' warnings that video games were despoiling our youth!
Damn, the the stuff out now is so advanced, some ppl chuckle when i bring out my laptop for a few minutes of "Donkey Kong" or even "Pac man" after playing "City of Heroes"

GOD BLESS GAMERS OF ALL AGES!! I have a 2 month old daughter, and I plan to spend time with her playing video games too! ;)

          Dayumn! And you're 41 ? :?

Heh, this reminds me of this diaper (or was it training pants :?) commercial: Most moms my age would be helping with geometry and polygons (orsmth like that), we're still working on the itsy-bitsy spider.

Are you going to teach your children with the classics or the new fandangled stuff?

LOL...what can I say? It isn't for lack of TRYING! ;)

I developed the attitude in my mid-thirties that I'd have kids when God decided it was my turn. I stopped worrying about it and "TA-DAHHH", my daughter, Kaylee Nicole, (the light of my life and She-who-OWNS-her Daddy) was born this year. I'm 41, the same age my mom was when she had ME!

The internet is wonderful and provides a wealth of info but you still miss out on alot. There is much more to a game than is provided by reading about it or playing a knock off bootleg copy.

True, but it's enough to know that Majora's Mask is not "Zelda 2", and I think that's all anyone in this thread is asking.

Zelda 2 is "The Legend of Zelda:Link's Adventure" But the game pretty much sucked.

Yup, like the trilogy of Super Mario Bros. 2 USA, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Doki Doki Panic. Every Time I tell ppl that, they never knew it. even some hardcore nintendo fans that are ADULTS!

As a sequel to the original Zelda, it was weird. Moving from top-view to side-scrolling with a top-view overworld map is a pretty drastic change. The game itself is awesome though. Hard as bloody hell, but awesome.

Definetly one of those games that was near impossible but I really liked the music in it. 8)

Actually, people have been asking quite a few things in this thread, which has taken numerous tangents.
