It's not really the younger generation's fault, mostly. Unless they have friends or older siblings who are into classic games, who is going to introduce them? Many of the younger gamers also have questionable taste in the new games that come out, but you have to consider that changes that have happened to the games industry. Sony's dominance of the video games industry has brought more changes than most gamers notice. Here's my theory on it:

Before Sony took over, most of the major leaders in the games industry also made a lot of quality video games: Atari, Nintendo, Sega, etc. All three of those companies know (or knew) what a solid gaming experience is and why it's important. Nintendo and Sega especially were also known for their consumer-oriented approach to the games business, i.e., make the customer happy and the customer will give the company more money. That set a high standard for third-party developers who made games for those companies' platforms. Sony Computer Entertainment, on the other hand, operates the same way as Sony's other media companies. Like their movies and music, their focus is on what they think will sell, and on glitzy marketing. A quality game experence might help a game sell better, but they've learned to get attention through focusing mainly on graphics and movie sequences and ad campaigns instead. They don't care if the game underneath it is good or not. They've been sending the message to developers that this is what's expected, and it has an impact on what the developers do. Final Fantasy X is a great example of how games are gradually turning into movies. The majority of Square's games used to be really fun to play, but not so much anymore. They sure are pretty though, and what cool characters and stories! Even the founder of Square got fed up with this direction and left the company to form a new studio (Mistwalker). It's gotten to the point where "story" has become a frequent factor in many amateur video game reviews, sometimes totally eclipsing gameplay. Microsoft, the industry's new #2, is also fundamentally not a games company. They appear to be taking a more consumer-oriented approach than Sony, especially as of late, but they still understand it mostly just from a business and technology perspective. When that's the kind of mentality you grow up with as a gamer, that's what you're going to expect from games, and that will affect your tastes and preferences.

That being said, I was raised playing Arcades and Super Nintendo. I don't think of myself as either new or old, kind of a link between the two.

It actually first came out on a system called MSX, but that version was never released in the US. It used to be a popular computer system in Japan, sorta like the Comodore 64. It even had its own versions of Castlevania and the original Final Fantasy.

then, like they fight this guy, and one of the guys in the dayroom shouts," OMG! ITS TREVOUR!"

                            and im like...uh, whose that?

and some other dude, says, dont you play castlevania? Trevour is from the first one.

I was a little confused, so i asked what happened to Simon

they looked at me, and asked who that was....so i just walked away.

I recall anouther time when i was at a party, and we were all playing mario 1, and this guy was like "Yo!, what system is this? Yo! wtf just came out of his nose"

everyone was stunned...we asked if he ever even heard of the "B" button

he sayed he never new what nintendo was...and apparently, he never new anything about video game basics either

sadly, i have much hatred for the new generation, because they dont know the classic history of video games

                              Check out the comments.

Hey! I'm 12 and I play all the Old-school games  . New gen(beides nintendo) sucks. I hate Sony and Microsoft. I am a one of a kind kid, and I love Genesis, NES, and classic games. My first system was a Genesis! So don't believe all kids you see. I have a Genesis, NES, dreamcast, N64, Game Gear, genesis Nomad, and original white Game Boy. When I tell my friends about my systems, they don't know half of them.

Actually, the original art for the first Zelda game isn't very clear as to what color Link's hair should be exactly. It could be interpreted as brown, dark sandy blond, or red. The old Zelda cartoon is a bad example for comparing the perceptions of youngsters against what the original game was like anyway. Cases in point: amazon Zelda and the technicolor Triforce. They're essentially right that the cartoon is way off-base.

you can use them, but you need to be at full health in the game.
