I decided since there is a "Worst sound" thread, why not make a "Worst graphics" thread? Getting to the point, which video game do you think has the worst graphics for its time? I know graphics don't make a game, but there are some really horrible-looking games out there that we'd all love to discuss. Here's my list!

    - Action 52 (NES). I've seen Atari 2600 games with better graphics than this!

    - Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing (PC). So many glitches and horrible textures!

    - Where's Waldo? (NES). Everything is so tiny I can't even find him!

    - WWF King of the Ring (NES). They wrestlers look like something I've chewed up and spit out.

    - Race Drivin' (SNES). Super FX-style visuals without the Super FX chip, but the whole game runs at about 3-5 frames per second.

    - Tag Team Wrestling (NES). The wrestlers are very "short-handed"!

    - Superman 64 (N64). Superman looks like a Lego figure with a red piece of paper hanging from his back, and all of Metropolis is covered with a thick blanket of "kryptonite fog" to try and hide the numerous glitches this game has. This might also explain why Superman is so weak!

Legend of Zelda:Wind Wakers....sorry but it just didnt appeal to me, you use that style for anime games, otherwise it looks kinda funky...

Graphics quality is pretty relative. I mean, if you take it all together, does it really get worse than Pong?

Custer's Revenge (Atari)- Basically resembles two Legos going at it with cowboy hats.

I, on the other hand, don't. It's perfectly fine if you don't like the style. It's your opinion, after all. But to call it "bad graphics" simply because it looks funky to you is poor perception. And honestly, Zelda has always had a kind of quasi-anime thing going on.

Not really hating on you or anything, just offering my view.

Official art for the original Legend of Zelda game:

Cell-shading is for anime games? So are speed lines. Looks like it's an anime game. I'm glad we settled that.

More of the original "anime kid" Link.

Note the "mature" style chosen to represent the game

It should be pretty obvious that Wind Waker is a new take on an old school interpretation of Link. If any group in the world should have a problem with Zelda getting back to its child-like anime-like roots, it's definitely not you guys here. Also, it ought to be obvious from Wind Waker's intro that the graphics are also supposed to resemble medieval woodcut prints. That's some pretty artsy stuff there that kids wouldn't "get".

Oricana of Time and Twilight Princess is anime styled too, but man I'm glad you brought that up. Still, I wasn't really nagging at them about their preference of styles. It was about them hating the graphics BECAUSE of the style. I shouldn't make it any clearer.

i really hated Gpolice 2 on the PSX. the first game had a very short range of sigth to compensate for the low processing power of the psx but the sequel had wireframes for distant objects, which would have been cool would it not have been for the psx low resolution causing the wires to look like blobs, making the game unplayable.

I'm Sorry, It Don't Get Mucho Worse Than That, especially that last one, you have to Imagine the graphics, if you have no imagination, then what does that leave you huh?

Well, to be fair, back then there was very little to work with. Video games have certainly come a loooong way.

Oh, and back to the topic of Zelda, you know what really had horrible graphics? The CD-i games. Both the animation sequences and in-game.

Well, i think if they are gonna make it a cell-shaded game for an anime based game, then make it look animeish, not like a little kids drawing...

Look, I don't want to have to get into some form of flamewar. I could go on and on saying the style looks NOTHING like some kid's scribbled imagination, and that there are many animes out there that look quite childish, but I won't. It's only adding fuel to the argument. Instead, I think we should just agree to disagree, and leave everything with another screencap of that horrible CD-i game:

                                      Image:Zeldawandofgamelon1.jpg

EDIT: Screw it. It dosen't work.

The style in the Windwaker seems to have got some negative and some positive feedback. IMO, cel-shading fit perfectly for the serie, since it reminded me of the best Zelda game made: Link To the Past. The characters pretty much sucked, okay, but if they had chosen the same style with more mature approach it could had been just what the serie needs.

As to the worst graphics... Anyone remember those o'le "Might & Magic" series? Sequel #8 got quite a bit of whipping of seriously poor graphics from the magazines of that time, IIRC. Quoting from Gamespot:

What is amusing that the first user-review at the page still gives it "10: Perfect!" A prime example of bias. :D
