Some rip-offs are actually quite good considering their playability:
            • Great Giana Sisters, C64 (Super Mario Brothers):

            • Universal Soldier, MD (Turrican)

            • Run Saber, SNES (Strider)

            • Streets of Rage, MD (Final Fight)

These games all copy other games but in a good way!

you have to admit.....homebrewed games were the best. especially when you had your favorite game.....and you knew how to program it....and you did.

so now the game runs twice as fast and has more explosions and more weapons and cooler looking character.

then some jackass at neogeo rips you off and calls it metal slug.

DAMN YOU NEO GEO! YOULL RUE THE DAY YOU CROSSED THE NINJA MONKEY!

Pac-Guy is awesome! Would Bubsy be considered a rip-off of Sonic? Or Tetris 2 a rip-off of Dr. Mario? And Jezzball a rip-off of Qix? Jezzball is da bomb!

you could probably even say that centipede was a ripoff of space invaders! lol

the fact of the matter is that different companies in the gaming industry have been ripping off eachother ever since it started.

and i can only say that it coninues, thanks to the sony ps3 and nintendo Wii. if you guys have been keeping up on those, you know what i mean

You haven't seen a ripoff until you've tried Somari the Adventurer. It was a Chinese bootleg that circulated in Cartridge form (mostly through out China) since the days of the NES, then it started circulating in the internet in ROM form several years ago.

Somari was basically Mario in Sonic's universe, WTF?!?! Mario fighting Dr. Robotnik (Now known as Dr. Eggman) and using the same items that Sonic used, i.e. Super Shoes.

It was also an eight-bit game for the NES and was pretty good for a bootleg/Mario Hack.

I tried a Somari ROM on an emulator. It was weird. How did they get Sonic's 16-bit world into an 8-bit cartridge, though?

No it isn't. Trust me, I'm a long time fan of both franchises, and Monster Rancher is no more a rip off of Pokemon than Eternal Darkness is a rip off of Resident Evil.

Similar genre, but two very differant games.
