They're not going to make it.
Seriously, even Sony itself says that they couldn't make that game right now if they wanted to. They pushed the machine to it's limits to get that, and that was after they hand optimized everything. Long story short, they basically said that it would be impossible to get that kind of a game out within the first several years of the system's life, and they could only do it at the very end of the system's lifecycle when they've had all possible experience.

Like Zelda Twilight Princess, this game could not have been made when the Cube first came out, as no one was familiar enough with the system to make it, not even Nintendo themselves.

And anyway, the way things are leaning, its currently more likely to see FF7 on the Nintendo DS than anywhere else. After all, FF7 was originally made for the N64 and ported to the PS1 after Square got fed up with the limitations of carts.

they should remake FF7 but with better graphics...think about it. Its insanely popular even now, and with better graphics it owuld attract more kids to play it. Id love to see that.

Ff7 is my fave, as it got me into the whole ff thing, was only ickle at the time, so never completed it, could never finish off one wing spehiroth.

Cloud is the hottest guy, from a guy's pov, and my favourite gal, although i'm gonna get owned here, is yuffie, she's so cute in advent children!

I was all set to jump in and say that Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the US) was my favourite, but then after reading the rest of this thread it's got me thinking and I really like loads of the FF games for different reasons!

FF4 (2) was really something, one of the best storylines to a game EVER! The idea behind it, the scale and scope of the game, the themes it dealt with, everything about it is awesome! - Reminds me I got the GBA version for Xmas and I NEED to put more hours into this!! :D

FF7 brought the series bang upto date, with amazing graphics, another fantastic story, and another really enjoyable title.

FF8 again took what was familiar and changed it around again, Squall was a great character and his rivalry with Seifer was really well handled. Loved the Ragnarok ship in this one too - sure that was it's nice, Red Dragon type ship!

FF10 - first PS2 FF game, great game, another really engaging story, amazing visuals and introduced one of the toughest characters of all - Auron!!!!

From what I have seen of FF12 it looks to be another classic in the making!

Overall I don't think you can really go wrong with any FF game!

Almost forgot - if you love your FF and especially FF7 then Advent Children is a must see DVD!

sorry, but isn't crap, just clichéd, which isn't always a bad thing, the whole atmosphere of it is amazing, have you seen advent children? completely predicatble, but such a good film!

I haven't played any of the new FF games (VII and post) but have tried all previous games, only completed part VI though. They're good games, very time consuming.

Just finished FF6 for the third time and still thinking it's an awesome game. FF7 is a good sequel, but not exactly as good. Others do not come even close.

I see everyone has an opinion on which is the best final fantasy. They are all great in there own way. I have been playing FF since it came to america I was 8 at the time, fell in love instantly. I personally belive that FF6 is the best out of them all, again my opinion. Each one has a uniqe set of characters, story, and sometimes throws new approaches on how you play. I'm a vet on the FF series and each one I have played which is all of them, have left an serious imprint on my gaming life.

FFVI, that was the one with the magitech in it, wasn't it? Never could get interested in that one...

VII was and remains my favorite FF game. As for my favorite girl, its gotta be Yuffie. Such a cutie. I'm currently replaying VII again, and still loving it again. Didn't cry when Aeris died this time though, that seems to have gotten stale over the years, but oh well. Using my favorite team setup now too. Cloud, Yuffie, and Cid. Heh, and I have been completely mopping the floor with the game this time, apparently I didn't do much power leveling the last time around, because all the "hard" bosses I've been having to stop and reload to fight multiple times, simply because I kept killing them before I could steal or get the enemy skill I wanted from them.

FFVI is my favorite game of all time.

I like FF1. FF2 is okay for what it is. Haven't played 3. FFIV is probably my second favorite of the series. FFV is enjoyable but I didn't care about the characters like I did in the other SNES ones.

FFVII, ugh. Don't get me started. It's not a bad game or anything, but I personally find it to be one of the most overrated games I've ever seen.

Did not like FFVIII. Haven't played enough FFIX to judge. I thought FFX was a lot of fun.

                                      And that's it.

Also that was FF3 (the US version of FF6), Edy.

Also, that part where Aeris dies is sad.

By now I am sure you've all heard that the new Nintendo will allow you to download all of the games you used to play on earlier consoles. Since Playstation has no such feature as yet, does that mean all those who have lost their PS1 and have given up their PS 2 can never play Final Fantasy 7-9 again?

I don't know about you, but I am not going to be able to keep my PS 1 in good enough shape for very much longer to play as Zidane any longer. Do you think a massive write-in will be able to change things at Sony?
