While each system had its strengths and weaknesses, the only thing (in my opinion) that seperated the two was that the SNES had huge franchise titles that were riding sky high since the NES. For as good as many Genesis games were, nothing could compete with Mario, Metroid and Zelda. Sonic, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Sword of Vermillion, etc.., all were very good but on name recognition alone, they couldn't compete through the end.
As far as I am concerned, the only way to get a true feel and appreciation for both systems is to have lived and played them when they were hot. Playing them now, 15+ yrs later, still leaves out something that you could only get by playing in the early 90's. The competition and the feeling of the gaming industry doesn't come out when you play these systems now.
