I figure it's Voltron: The Third Dimension that you've heard of. Basically an American-made sequel to Voltron: Defender of the Universe that came on a few years ago in syndication (I believe). I remember hearing some people (who sounded like the type to immediately regard any sequel/remake as inferior) occasionally bash the show, but I also know, thanks to the official forum at the time, that many veteran Voltron fans enjoyed it.
I was part of the latter. I thought the stories were pretty good for the most part, and the series had a nice focus on characterization as well. It gave Princess Alura the kind of prominence and respect she deserved, it threw in an interesting subplot with Zarkon being "reformed," it had Keith being the steadfast leader he's always been, and it truly conveyed a sense that things had progressed in the Voltron story (sort of like all of the characters had grown right along with the audience during the years they'd been away) and that this was the current situation.
Overall, it's worth tracking down if you're a Voltron fan.
