Now of course I remember the lion Voltron cartoon. That came on every afternoon at four pm at my house and was one of my all time fav cartoons.I also remember the one with all the cars, planes and boats too.But the other day I was shocked when I was told that there was also a third Voltron out there.

Is this true? And if so when was it on,what was it about and what was it called?

I figure it's Voltron: The Third Dimension that you've heard of. Basically an American-made sequel to Voltron: Defender of the Universe that came on a few years ago in syndication (I believe). I remember hearing some people (who sounded like the type to immediately regard any sequel/remake as inferior) occasionally bash the show, but I also know, thanks to the official forum at the time, that many veteran Voltron fans enjoyed it.

I was part of the latter. I thought the stories were pretty good for the most part, and the series had a nice focus on characterization as well. It gave Princess Alura the kind of prominence and respect she deserved, it threw in an interesting subplot with Zarkon being "reformed," it had Keith being the steadfast leader he's always been, and it truly conveyed a sense that things had progressed in the Voltron story (sort of like all of the characters had grown right along with the audience during the years they'd been away) and that this was the current situation.

Overall, it's worth tracking down if you're a Voltron fan.

There was a third Voltron toy, but a show was never produced for it(at least not in America).

Yeah the 3d one that was on in the late 90's. I kinda liked that one. It came on Fox Kids on saturdays. I think it was on during that Live TMNT show was on tv also.

Yeah, I had the red one, it was 3 human shaped robots that linked into one larger multi armed robot.

This one had no 3D animation and was Japanese.

Here is the toys on ebay

                        It was called Voltron II

I never knew of a Voltron 2 cartoon in the United States. There was a cartoon for Voltron 1 and Voltron 3, but what about this toy? Now that I have lived past the 80's and done some research, I recognize that Voltron 2 was actually from an "Abegas" toy series. In this Japanese series we also had specialized white robot ships that are known in the U.S. as "Godaikin Albegas spaceships." Weird. I can only guess that the original Japanese anime had too much violence in it for the violence sensitive U.S. The Japanese version of the deluxe toy had an assortment of three chromed swords with jagged projections.

It was Japan only.. I will ask around on Seibertron since there are quite a few Voltron fans over there.

When I was a kid I loves the original Voltron series. When it got replaced with the second one I was very dissapointed. I bet though that it was just the case of preferring the first one that came out more no matter which one it was.
