        NEGATIVE:
-- USA. Ever since Clinton stepped down they have gone downhill.
-- Lack of development and creativity (both in games and anime).
-- Above may be caused by the crappy selection criterias: 100% safe and established employees and 0% new and refreshing ones.
        -- Over-protectionism in video-games and entertainment.

        POSITIVE:
-- Internet. Real 56 kb up/down sure beats any modem and the content beats TV in every way.
        -- BitTorrent. I luv P2P sharing. :)
-- Those few, shining gems among the grey mass...

          1. Growing up and getting older.

          2. Sex overcommericalized. What ever happened to getting married?

          3. Hollywood running out of ideas.

          4. TV stations you used to enjoy, now make you cringe.

          5. Creativity is now outsourced.

          6. People still complaining about old problems.

Gee, I don't know what's good about this decade.

Let's choose horror movie as an example. Most of them are remake from the 60's and 70's or remake from japanese horror film. Don't forget all these "action-sci-fi" movie with chicks who has super human ability and fight in Matrix-like style, killing 1000 guy all to themself. Except from Kill Bill, Kill Bill was good. Hollywood's becoming really lame! I should say more but, I don't want this post to turn into a essay of some sort.

!EDIT! Hey HKtoNY1983, this is a quite nice avi you have there. Is it Queen Millennia? Because, I am a huge fan of Leiji Matsumoto's work.

All of you have pretty much hit the nail on the head on this one. I personally am mourning the loss of my favorite children's shows from the 80s and early 90s, as well as the quality PSAs. Call me a dork, but the crap they have on TV now makes me very sad.

Actually, I can think of something negative about the 00's: lack of good parenting. Most kids I see now are little disrespectful smartasses, and the parents aren't doing a thing about it. And the parents feel the need to sue a business or person because their kid decided to play on the store shelves and fell and broke his arm.

Something positive about the 00's: I could say technology, but I'm not impressed with text messaging cell phones and Sidekicks to run out and get one. I do enjoy my MP3 player, and I could give a shit less if it was an iPod.

Oh...I can go on forever about how many things in the 00's I hate.

Gas Prices - In 1999, the average gas price around where I live was $0.99 a gallon. Now, it's $2.55 a gallon...and it's only going to get worse.

Hollywood running out of ideas. All we get now-a-days are sequals, remakes, cheesy horror movies, and countless teen comedies.

Television stations that once were really good, and now suck. Disney and Nickelodeon anyone?

Most video games are all about the graphics now-a-days...not the gameplay, which makes a good majority of them suck. Also, there haven't been any good soundtracks in games lately. Most music in games now-a-days is bland and very forgettable. Some games don't even have music at all to make it feel more "real". Whatever happened to games that had tunes that would get stuck in your head for days, weeks, months, or years?

Most entertainment (video games, movies, television, etc.) is now being marketed towards teens and young adults. Yeah, I know I'm a young adult...but I feel sorry for kids these days. They don't even get to enjoy HALF the stuff that I did when I was young...and the very little amount of stuff that's there for them is crap.

Everything is SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!! Take the newest video game systems like the Xbox 360. Back in 1991...you could buy the brand new SNES for $199.99. It came with a game, and two controllers. Now, you buy the new Xbox 360 for $399.99 with no games and ONE controller. You have to go out and buy a second controller for $49.99, and a game for $59.99!! And they say the Playstation 3 will be even worse! Also, the costs of living keep going up, up, up. That means...more work, and less play.

Crappy cartoons. There are SO many crappy cartoons now-a-days. It doesn't seem like hardly any time or thought is put into them at all. Just look how bad the animation in most of them is! No wonder anime has become such a craze over hear in recent years...because our American cartoons are going down the crapper.

Time seemed to start going WAY faster ever since 2000. I mean...it's already freakin 2006, and feels like 2000 was only 2 or 3 years ago, not 6! The 90's seemed to go by nice and slow...but not the 00's. I guess it's just cause I'm getting older, but still.

A good majority of my friends from the 80's and 90's started doing drugs in the 00's and getting into big trouble. And since I don't do drugs, and I don't like getting into trouble...I now stay away from them.

Ok, I'll stop now. But really...I was just getting warmed up!

                  Hm...let's see...

Reality Television: Back in the 90s and before then, seems it wasn't as mainstream, so it wasn't at the point where everytime you turn on the television some Reality program is on or some pitch for a new reality show is on. I don't mind some (Super Nanny; Extreme Makeover Home Edition)

Movies: There doesn't seem to be anything original anymore that's not a remake or based on something already done. I can't get over the fact that there's going to be a Welcome Back Kotter movie.

Teen Central: Disney Channel, for the most part. It seems to be nothing but teen central now. Most of the shows are aimed at teenagers. I like how it was in the old days where they had shows and programs aimed at everyone of all ages.

Nickelodeon: I hate the way they handle their Nicktoons. They overshow them, for the most part.

Anime: I know, strange coming from me, but it does seem to be a bit too mainstream now (like Reality Television). Maybe that's why I don't watch it on television much or watch unlicensed stuff. Then again, I read manga way more than I watch anime now.

Saturday Morning Programming: These kids are being totally deprived of it. Sucks that ABC is literally a "Disney Channel 2" and that's nothing but "teen central".

Vh-1: It's become an MTV wannabe a rarely show music videos anymore.

MTV: It's become a BET wannabe. DO they even show music videos anymore?

                        @ retromaniac

Right on for the most part, except that the games weren't that cheap back then. It was something like 100 euros of one game by today's standard, so at least that aspect is a bit better now. Granted, consoles themselves were cheaper, but I guess that was mainly because they were easier to manufacture. Today everything seems to require you to purchase parts from ten different companies, pay them, pay their middle-men, and then pay your own workers to get their asses working.

And the same applies to games if you want them to be in full 3D glory with vertex shaders, bumbmaps, shiny surfaces, semi-realistic textures, havoc physics, and other etc... Where have all the good 2D games gone? IIRC, Disciples 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 were the last, great 2D games and they both were published 2002. :?

"Nothing Seems To Be Fun Anymore"- Atari Jaguar commercial line has more meaning than it ever did. Nothing is fun anymore. 99 percent of things that are new are lame. The world has been taken over by emo, gangsta rap, "reality television", and everything else that could be lame. Kids my age (17) are jerks that talk about how great stuff like I-pods and Myspace are. Myspace can burn with the child molesters that go there. Politics are slowly turning into the frightening reality of the Orwell book 1984. Too much power in society. In this society you are popular or are a complete loser. The positive thing is that Bush is not the worst president ever. He is in the top five though. Hoover is the worst for his actions during the depression. We are slowly turning into another depressed society. Lawsuits are being filed for no reason and the divorce rate is very high. People think marrage is a fairy tale, but it requires work. Hopefully those slightly older than me can fix this problem, so that people don't have to suffer. Is America really America anymore? You be the judge on that one.

Here's some more things I hate about the 00's:

                                    - The overuse of CGI. So many American cartoons are computer-animated these days, and 9 out of 10 look just plain ugly! And CGI in horror movies looks totally fake!

                                    - People using those brand-new SUV's and cell phones as status symbols.

                                    - Reality television. I don't know why people still watch it!

                                    - Graphics over gameplay in video games.

                                    - The lack of Saturday morning cartoon blocks for kids. Is it illegal for them to be kids nowadays!!?!??

                                    - The invasion of the PC Police. Everything has to be politically correct nowadays because most people are wusses nowadays!

                                    - The fact that the cost of living keeps rising.
