Have you ever played a certain video games series that you like until the current release game has a event/character/etc. that made you think, `Wow, this series has gone down the tubes?`

Yes, definitely. For me, unfortunately, it was the Sonic series with Sonic 2: Battle.

The problems it had (too much rail grinding, identical gameplay for both Hero and Evil stories, Tails character mechanics taken away, etc) were reletively forgiving, but when I rented Sonic Heroes and found out that not only did they not correct them, but rather multiplied them... well that was it.

It really sounds like Heroes should the the shark jumper for me, but all the Sonic games from Battle and on that I have played I just have not enjoyed (in the case of Heroes, pissed me the hell off). So that's where the series ended for me. Sad, too, because it was Sonic that originally got me into gaming too, playing the first two on the Genesis at my uncle's.

I'm hoping maybe the next-gen Sonic on the 360 and PS3 (hopefully Rev, too) will breath new life into the series.

I think the Megaman series jumped the shark after megaman3.
Except for the Megaman X series, because it did look and play different from the original series.

I agree with THUG 2 being the jumping point for Tony Hawk.

I think after FFVII, the Final Fantasy series jumped. There's just no way to top VII. Although 6 is my overall favorite, 7 was still just as amazing.

Quake jumped after the first one. None have been as good.

Mortal Kombat jumped after Ultimate MK 3. That was the last good one.

Mortal Kombat 2 was the best in my opinion, but I still haven't checked out the 3D versions of the game. From what I've seen it looked good and I have to check out the gameplay.

Street Fighter II. You know, the Super Ultra Mega Hyper Championship Turbo Acid Edition.

Silly Capcom and their overmilking of cash cows.

Also, Tomb Raider. If I'm right in thinking it went like this:

                    1) Decent.
                    2) Slightly harder but new stuff. Decent.
                    3) A lot harder. Tough but OK.
                    4) See 2.
                    5) Um... flashbacks.

Somewhere upon the release of The Last Revelation, I think the series jumped the shark. Speaking of which.

Mario Party games are OK. They made 7 games. WTF?

I can't believe it. Oh my god!

                        :shock::?

                        Be different, Nintendo.
