Don't you hate it when Hollywood turns your favorite video game into a movie?

Anyone that has memories, recollections, or anything about video game to movie, please say so.

What's next?

Yeah, I hated it when they did "Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within". It had almost absolutely NOTHING to do with the games, except for a character named Cid. Other than that, no use of magic, no chocobos, no good character development, no good soundtrack, all nothing but some good CGI put to waste and used for CRAP! I was so looking forward to seeing a faithful adaptation to the games but was sorely disappointed!

i think that video games lend themselves well to movie production with great storylines and such, but that they always seem to end up in the hands of sub par directors, or get somehow butchered in production. most video game creators have little to no say in the creation of a movie based on their game, which could be the problem. i think that in the right situations, there are many video games that could be turned into great movies.

The Mario movie was awful, because Luigi was a teenager without facial hair, several characters were humans, I didn't see Princess Peach Toadstool, they should have fed Yoshi to ride on him, and the power-ups they used weren't that interesting.

Yes, it's pretty annoying.The worst example=Uwe Boll

Good game movies that I've seen are Resident Evil and RE:Apocalypse. The best game movie is in my opinion Final Fantasy: Advent Children.

What about Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider?

Ohh yeeesss....Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. That's the worst "based on game" movie in my opinion ( I haven't seen House of The Dead or Alone in The Dark, nor have I seen the new Bloodrayne....check IMDB )

WARNING: Swears coming up...I apologize for saying strong profanity.

I can't believe all of you saw video game movies.

I sort of remember the Mario Bros movie either that or I remember that video game movie with Fred Savage on Disney Channel a few years ago.

I think video games movie have shit featuring bad plots and the Hollywood actors to play for video game characters.

Believe me!

Silent Hill seems to be quite impressive from what I've seen of it.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I challenge someone to tell me a GOOD video game movie.
It is extremely rare. Silent Hill looks great, but Doom looked good in previews too ( And it sucked balls). Final Fantasy the spirts within is the closet thing to a good video game movie adaption, and it still wasn't that great of a movie

and dont give me your "But Mario Bros was a good movie" or "Street fighter with Van Damme is a classic". Because honestly...these movies are watchable but not what I call "Good" Movies. There is a difference

short list of bad video game movies
Super Mario Bros
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Apocalypse
Doom
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat annilation
Street Fighter
Wing Commander
Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider 2
Double Dragon
HOUSE OF THE DEAD( worst video game movie of all time)
Pokemon part 1 thru 235
Bloodrayne
and many more

At least Gans tries to stay true with the Silent Hill world. Even the guys involved with the games were happy with it.

The fault with all other movies based on video games is that they doesn't stay true to game. For example SMB differed way too much from the game. They tried to do weird on "cool" things but didn't get the feeling of the games to it.

I have to agree with Shaqdaddy. Video games today have very interesting and complex plots, with character development, and sometimes even decent acting. This is all the ingredients you need for a decent film. The problem is Hollywood and their shamless ability to bastardize any media and turn it into a mass marketed piece of garbage that they think will sell well to the ignorant masses. In most caes they are right. While fans of the original media and people with intelligence might be very disappointed, the general masses will love it and every piece of shitty merchandise based on it. It's sad, but it's true.

I have been disappointed in every single game-to-film movie I have seen. The only game-to-film I somewhat enjoyed was Resident Evil. That is because I just completely gave up on the plot being anything close to the game, and watched it as a film of it's own. The sequel was utterly ridiculous.

Now we have Silent Hill on the horizon. I have played all the games, and I know their plots. I have also seen the film trailers, and I've read and viewed the official web site material for the film. So far, I am impressed. They have changed the basic plot to some degree, but the main theme still remains, as does the atmoshphere, and some of the characters from what I can see. Now someone mentioned that Doom looked good to, but ended up as crap. Now I'll tell you why I think Silent Hill might end up decent, it's very simple, the crew involved. The names and the background of the crew involved on Silent Hill speak for themselves. The only somewhat talented person on the credits for Doom is Wesley Strick. One person, even a writer, can't make the entire film. So, with the crew working on Silent Hill, and what I've seen and heard thus far, I hope this will turn out to be the best game-to-film adaptation to date.

If you're to lazy to look it up...

I also reccomend checking out the official site in general, it's quite good.

Yeah, movies based on video games usually don't work out too well.

Did you hear a few years ago they were thinking about making a movie based on the game Crazy Taxi?

It's just like books to movies.. doesn't always translate well.. they take things out.. changes things.. change characters names etc.

People always like the book better.

With video games though, we already have a visual representation.. so it's harder to please.

They'll get it right one day.

Double Dragon was very disappointing, most of the Nintendo adaptations of the 80s and 90s were as well. I did like Mortal Kombat though, the first one.
