Thread: A bernstein bears situation about a unknown cartoon from 80s

Hello all, its my first post but I've been looking for the last two days through cartoon intros online and still haven't found the right cartoon I saw many MANY years ago.
A little context I do not know what the cartoons name was or what country it originated from, I was very young lad watching early morning cartoons ( on channel 4 I think back when we only had 4 channels in the UK ).

The scene I remember was a scifi cartoon where the main hero was a boy with a magic ring that could bring out a phoenix to attack the enemy, he might have had a sword as well but the scene Im sure was set in space. The main hero was being told to follow what I think was a version of Merlin through a series of trials to see if he could survive/overcome them, one in particular was a young girl being attacked by a monster that the merlin character brushed off and told the hero to ignore. The hero of course instead jumps off the path and goes to save the girl who it turns out was a test to see if the hero would be selfless. I remember them having a ship and possibly a robot buddy too. But for the last few years I have never seen or found this cartoon again, I thought it might have been a French/Japanese or European/mix cartoon as I haven't found anything of its kind in the US cartoon animations of the 80s.

Honestly Im starting to feel like this was a dream like the last episode of Dungeons and dragons, but I remember that phoenix ring scene so well even after all these years.

Anyway if anyone has a idea of what I could be looking for I would be most grateful.
Also yes I looked through the memory lane 80s cartoons list and didn't see it there (or at least the descriptions didn't match what I remember).
    Regards
    TDW

        a boy/young man
        -with a magic ring
        -following a wizened wizard mentor
        -a robot pal in tow
        -in space
all these elements were pretty popular in cartoons following the popularity of Star Wars. More than a few cartoon series had some of these.
First one to come to mind is
        Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
        -view-
        if not,
any more info...maybe another episode ?

Yeah Im sorry its vague, this was very long ago for me and I've even started rewatching "Jayce and the wheeled warriors" to see if I might be thinking of them. But its the ring that stuck out to me, which would seem to be the Jayce ring but so far any episodes I look through doesn't seem to have that episode. Still Ill try and see. Thanks for the help.

Sadly no Im pretty sure it wasn't that show (I think I only ever saw the first episode of that cartoon to begin with). But thank you for the suggestion.
