Thread: Favorite Emulators?

What are some of your favorite emulators?

Btw, is there an SNES emulator that isn't infected with trojans? I know for a fact most N64 emulators like Project64 are, so are SNES9x and I'm also suspicious of ZSNES since I got a trojan right around the time I was running it...

i have a mac, and the emulators i use most frequently are SNES9x, nestopia, and genesis plus. i've had all three for about four or five years, and i've never had any issues with them. eventually, i bought flash carts for all three and n64.

for n64 i used to use sixtyforce, but it pretty much could only run mario kart 64 and perfect dark.

The bundled trojan horse(s) that come with most emulators were designed to target Windows only.

Something tells me that porn and video games aren't healthy past-times since they're venues for getting your computer infected which is an analogy for getting our healthy brains (CPUs) plastered with the bad stuff.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario and other Nintendo franchises himself doesn't own any console video game system b/c he wants to set an example. He and Nintendo have to make a living selling video games and systems. But the message he's trying to convey by not owning any is that vid games aren't necessarily good for you...

              Source? I've never heard this.

As for the business about being bad for you...any kind of program can come with a virus, if you go about getting it the wrong way.

The thing that porn and vid games have in common is they prey on your adrenaline system. Adrenaline rushes aren't normal in a healthy system, ie. you don't experience Adrenaline rushes in your daily life. Adrenaline is a sympathetic system hormone that activates/triggers "the Devil's path" that damages the central nervous system and rots our brains. It should only be reserved for fight-or-flight danger avoidance responses not during porn/video game usage.

The other path (ie. "Angel's path") is the para-sympathetic system (and its associated hormones) that never gets activated when consuming porn or gaming.

So people getting their PCs infected with viruses when they porn or use emulators or download games from torrents is a warning from "Higher Powers" that what happens to their PCs when they consume these things is essentially what happens to their bodies and their noggins (ie. biological CPUs)...

It says he doesn't have a Super Nintendo in 2010. That is different than not owning any video games or setting examples. Like the article says if he did have a SNES, it would be a Super Famicom. Plus lots of gamers don't have old consoles. Especially in Japan where space is premium. The article says nothing about new consoles. Maybe he has a Wii?

Interesting, however, that the article shows us how video games can be a force for good. Rescuing that kid from abuse and hatred.

The SNES is considered by many to have been the holy grail of gaming consoles. If Miyamoto never owned an SNES what makes you think he owned any of the other Nintendo consoles?

Very well, here are other examples: The greatest movie hacker in the world Neo (Keanu Reeves) doesn't have a computer. Jackie Chan doesn't own a house, prefers to live in hotels. Bilbo Baggins' actor, Martin Freeman, has never read the book, The Hobbit...

It says he "could not play your Star Fox game cartridge, because he did not have SNES system." That means, "Ariem, he couldn't play your SNES cartridge when you sent it to him in 2010." Some people don't keep everything they ever have. Especially in Japan where a typical house is like 1/4 the size it is in USA.
It does not mean he never had the console from that time period. Even if he did, a USA version of Star Fox doesn't fit in a Super Famicom. The hardware is different in Japan. Anyway he would probably use Virtual Console if he was going to play old games.

That "holy grail" business is irrelevant, Miyamoto is not a collector and he doesn't live in a Nintendo museum.

Now these other examples...you say Miyamoto has no games because games are bad for you. So what, are computers, houses, and The Hobbit also bad for you?

I never had a problem using SNES9x. Maybe you got it from the wrong place.

not sure where you're getting the emulators, or if dickheads have gotten ahold of all of them...

Seems I might have to try a Japanese emulator. Seems the Western ones don't have the gamer's best interest at heart (and I'm talking about official downloads from official home pages). Which is why the latter are often containers for trojans and virii and spywares. There might be a few bad eggs, but Japan has more pride and honor than to couple trojans with their softwares for monetary gains...

I think you mis-read the article. Gaming was never a hobby for Mr. Miyamoto, which is why he never kept a console system at home. Just like an American baseball team let the late President of Nintendo own it just b/c the guy had no interest in baseball and never attended a game...

I don't think I did. What you say might be true. But it's not supported by that article at all.

I use OpenEmu on my Mac. It works great, and is honestly the best emulator I have ever used. One problem, however: there's no input for an NES mouse like ZSNES.

I recently experimented with KEGA Fusion to see if I had a working Sega CD file, and man, that one has come a long way in 6-7 years from when I last tried it! If I didn't already own all the hardware, I would definitely use KEGA Fusion. The feature set is fantastic, even including different levels of scanlines and other video output options!

My favorite would be a iPhone emulator called Provenance were you play Nes, Snes, Gb, Gbc, Gba, and Sega consoles

OpenEmu, but it always runs into errors.
