Every generation experiences a decline in entertainment; books, music, television shows (if that generation had tv), and movies. I mean people growing up in the 20's and 30's complained about the decline in good fiction stories. They loved the new technology the 20th century bore, just like their parents (many) despised or feared it.

In our case (people on this board, like me, who are in their late 20's and early 30's; generation x.y and y), where do you think the decline in books, music, tv, and film started. I hold to 1997 onward.

Or do you think things have improved since then? I mean there have been good results too, don't get me wrong.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!! :)

I don't like most of the cartoons that my kids watch today, but they like the old cartoons I play for them like Duck Tales, TMNT, Pirates of Black Water, etc.. I guess I can be a little biased against new cartoons, but I've warmed up to Sponge Bob and Regular Show. I love Family Guy, American Dad, Supernatural, Gotham, and some others. I think things have improved overall; don't get me wrong I love stuff from my childhood, but those days are gone. I mostly watch old stuff when I'm stressed, they take me back to when things were simpler, and remind me of those good times, especially times with people who are no longer with us.

I'm with bklynbren here. Those of us here see the forms of entertainment that we enjoyed as kids changing, and feel an aversion to it. It's natural. Yes, there are those exceptions. Things are better (in some respects) than they were. There are also many things that are not better, and actually worse.

Some of the animated shows my children enjoy would likely not entertain an 80's me. Especially since the quality of writing has plummeted, with every tiny studio pumping out "flash" animation (passing as actual animation) with little actual "meat on the bone".

I can't tell you how many times I seen a thread like this. This feels similar to those threads anyway. Oh, well. This beats the usual threads where people bash modern-day Nickelodeon.
There is a battle between two wolves inside us all.

One is evil and the other one is good. Which wolf will win? The one you feed the most.
