Since not all cartoons are equal I admit that my personal list of Saturday Morning Favorites starts with "War Planets", aka "Shadow Raiders", part of the Kids' WB! lineup from 1998. An amazing cartoon by Mainframe Entertainment of Canada. "War Planets" uses the "ReBoot" formula and goes into an amazing universe of digital graphics, but made for your analog television. Share any cartoons that made you sit-up and take notice!

"War Planets" is a case in point, now I can't stop thinking about it, lol. And while I'm here, anyone remember "Silver Surfer: The Animated Series" from Fox Kids, 1998? Only aired for one season but it was unique while it lasted.

stake n sheak 22 days 10 hours ago Posts: 1769	I never saw Silver Surfer. Didn't even know about that one. I did watch the heck out of the X-Men cartoon a few years before that. Of course there was an hour or two of Looney Tunes shorts. Nothing beats those. I also liked the Jay Ward shows. Newer cartoons that I watched included Gummi Bears. I barely remember Kissyfur or Karate Kat. I watched Smurfs, Flintstones, and Scooby Doo but I feel no fondness for any of those now. I'm not counting cartoons I watched on weekdays, like Tiny Toons, Batman TAS and Beyond, Ducktales (and later, the other Disney Afternoon stuff), and Ninja Turtles.

stake n sheak 22 days 5 hours ago Posts: 1769	Didn't schedules vary by market? I think I've heard that Ninja Turtles (for example) was on Saturday in some parts of the country but where I grew up it was strictly weekdays. And I KNOW Ren & Stimpy was on Friday or Saturday at 10 o'clock at night.

There were a million great Saturday morning cartoons on when I was a kid, but X-Men made you desperate for the next episode week after week. You had to see what happens next, and if you missed it you were screwed!

The syndicated episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were on Saturday mornings in the fall of 1989. Ren & Stimpy was the second show of the Snick lineup. So, it probably aired at 9:30pm in the South.

In Seattle "Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys" aired on Sunday mornings while other markets ran it on Saturdays. That cartoon quickly became one of my favorites. I'm glad Straydog listed "The Tick", still one of the funniest superhero spoof cartoons and it still holds up well. And what a great cast of characters for Tick and Arthur to run with. Remember American Maid? How about the womanizing of Die Fledermaus, complete with the worst pick-up lines ever spoken by a man. Try Bipolar Bear and Captain Lemming as superhero examples! And don't get me started on the villains. OK, who could resist the attack of the Ottoman Empire? Tick had a tough time easing out of the easy chair, lol. Love the way the show gave Tick's friends their moment in the spotlight:

"The Tick" was one of the good ones. Fox had it right in between Spider-Man and X-Men in 95.

bklynbren 16 days 11 hours ago Posts: 866	ABC and FOX seemed to have the best Saturday morning line-ups though out the 90's, based on shows that I liked. CBS was not too far behind with TMNT and Pee-Wee's Playhouse. NBC was good up until 92, then they started showing less cartoons

Never had I expected to see these old characters make a comeback to Saturday Morning Cartoons. Gotta give a shout out to Ralph Bakshi, Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures was just plain funny. It was cool the way the episodes did not follow a familiar script, new villains and Mighty Mouse had new sidekicks. And I can't say enough about "The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat", really nice to see Felix in all his surreal glory, lol. Another surprise, Felix's friends Rosco and Poindexter were back in action again. Here's my favorite episode, the Star Trek spoof, "Star Trash":

bklynbren 16 days 7 hours ago Posts: 866	NBC seemed to pick up cartoons that were based on live action and popular games, "Mr. T", "Laser Tag Academy", "ALF: the Animated Adventures", "Captain N: the Game Master", "The Karate Kid", "Camp Candy", "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3", "Kid 'n Play", "Super Mario World", "ProStars",... I'm surprised they didn't have The MC Hammer cartoon.
