Yeh I used to live by Knott's Berry Farm in the 80's - 90's.. there used to be open fields all around that area.. but now it's either buildings or parking lots..

Although this is somewhat unrelated because the topic is about undeveloped areas becoming developed.. thinking about that area back then reminded me of something I miss the most, there was a drive-in theater that was only blocks away from where I lived. They tore it down in the mid-90's and turned it into an apartment complex.

I remember when Disneyland opened up California Adventure which is pretty huge and I can't remember what was on that land before. In a area that developed surely it had to be something.

Just the opposite here. We had Six Flags Astroworld which opened in 1968 and closed in 2005. The land was sold for highrise development. Well the economy crashed shortly after and the developer ran out of money. Today its an overgrown lot. The good news is we have a new park opening next year northeast of the city. It will be nice because we don't have a true theme park around here.

We have one drive-in northwest of the city. They are not too popular here due to mosquitoes and the heat/humidity.

My grandpa has pictures, it was all grassy and orange trees everywhere. He was the only person to ever host a car show at Disneyland in 1959 called Car Club Day and Autocade. He was the president of the Road Lords car club back in the 50's.

I'm currently in the process of trying to get those Disneyland pictures from him.. he lives so far so that I have to plan a trip, but I do have a bunch of pictures from his farm. He has a eight car garage full of hot rods, dragsters and old cars that remind me of Dick Tracy.. there's also an old gas station on his property that's closed down and he saved all the old-school looking pumps with the toppers.

That's awesome! Can I come and pose as your 2nd cousin?

And I know Disneyland was a orange grove originally. California Adventure opened in like 2005 so I'm wondering what was on that land before.

EDIT: Turns out it was just a parking lot.
