I have no respect for those who make a living from gossip/fashion shows or the likes. Though I tip my hat to her for the nerves she had to criticized others while she herself looking like Zira from Planet of the Apes. Good riddance.

@ Dyzfunk7ional... I think that was kinda a cold thing to say. Yes she made fun of people and what they wore but she was a comedian and she herself said to not take her seriously. I mean she even poked fun of her own many plastic surgeries. I think that if you got made fun of on the red carpet by Joan Rivers...it was an honor! The only people that should be taking offense are the high end designers that made the ugly clothes. LOL May she R.I.P.

With the passing of Joan Rivers we've lost another link to the days of the original pioneers of television.

Just think about some of the people that helped shape the medium in the years following World War II; Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, Betty White, Jimmy Durante, Jerry Lewis, Mickey Rooney, Sid Caesar, Phil Silvers; just for starters.

And Joan Rivers quickly took her place as one of the new funny ladies of stand-up in the early 60's. From her appearance on the Jack Paar Show (1959?) to her regular gig as guest host of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Joan had complete mastery of her comic persona, lots of shock value.

When Joan quit the Tonight Show for her own show on FOX, Johnny Carson instantly removed Joan out of the NBC broadcast family. Joan lost Johnny and many friends in the process.

Being black listed by Johnny Carson has been a career killer for many people over the years, but Joan Rivers managed to survive the old fashioned way - work anywhere and anyway.

Joan's acid attitude to fashion and celebrity made her a natural as an award show critic. Good or bad, it kept Joan in the public eye at a stage in her life where most people would have long retired from the business.

For everyone that hated Joan there was always someone that loved her sharp tongue, the funny and the awful all mixed up together.

            Rest In Peace Joan Rivers

Granted she was a comedian pioneer (especially for women) though she's was no George Carlin/Richard Pryor/Lenny Bruce or the likes.
It doesn't matter if she pokes fun on her own stumped-out face or some brainless celebrity (which are many) took her comments as 'honor', is the fact that she pass judgement without looking at the mirror herself. Is like a 300Lb doctor saying you should exercise. Good riddance.

Truth be told, a lot of people agree with Dyzfunk7ional.

After Joan crossed Johnny Carson by signing with FOX for her own talk show, the ill-fated "Late Show Starring Joan Rivers" back in 1986, Joan Rivers' career was on life support.

Crossing Johnny Carson ended the careers of many in the entertainment business. Joan Rivers also suffered the cancellation of her FOX talk show.
As Joan revived her stand-up routine I couldn't help but notice that her humor went waay downhill to the point of mocking too many people based on appearance.

I know it must have been tough for a woman Joan's age to stay relevant, but her Red Carpet comments were sometimes too hard to take, even for me.

I prefer to remember the 1960's Joan Rivers, she was funny at her own expense back then rather than the gruel path she took in her final years.

Like I said Dyzfunk7ional, a lot of people had issues with Joan.

Eddstarr88... I know that Joan had her own talkshow, but I don't know the dynamics of how she crossed Johnny Carson as at the time when her show aired both shows were on past my bedtime LOL But from what I understood is that Joan was like a reg guest on the Tonight Show and she wanted to do a show of her own and Johnny got jealous perhaps that she didn't want to stay playing second fiddle? Correct me if I'm wrong. But I also know that she was blacklisted from the Tonight Show which extended even when Jay Leno took over and was finally invited back once Jimmy Kimmel took over as host last yr.

That's right Pinwheel, Joan was the permanent guest host for Johnny on the Tonight Show.

What happened next was a series of misunderstandings.

The new FOX network in the 80's was interested in starting a late night show. An by 1985, word inside NBC was that Johnny was making noise about retirement.

The production staff for the Tonight Show ran a "short list" of replacements for Johnny Carson to NBC executives for consideration - Joan Rivers was not on the short list.

Fearing that she would soon be out of a job, Joan Rivers responded positively when FOX made inquiries as to her interest in having a show of her own. Joan, and her manager/husband Edgar, were unaware that Johnny changed his mind about retiring.

FOX moved forward with their plans for a new late night show starring Joan Rivers, as a direct competitor for the Tonight Show. Johnny Carson actually got a call from FOX Entertainment to let him know that a deal had been signed for Joan.

Only after that did Joan realize that she should have told Johnny sooner, that she and Edgar had signed on with FOX.

Too Late! Johnny never again spoke with Joan. He refused to take her calls. And Joan Rivers association with NBC was over.

Had "The Late Show with Joan Rivers" gone on to great success, Joan would've been on top of the world. But the show's ratings went south, and Joan with her husband Edgar ran afoul of FOX executives and production people. In less than a year Joan was gone.

That's the story as I knew it.

Lucky I got a response from her 2 years before she died!
