Does anyone think I should get a Wii U, or will it not last this gen? I hear rumors that it might defunct at some point in late-2014 or early-2015, so if the console is discontinued then I don't want to take risks and buy something that won't do it for recent games. What do you guys think; have you Wii U owners been proud of your purchase, or are you slowly weeping on the inside wishing you got that cooler Xbox One...or something like that?

I bought the Wii U for my kids and they love it. I also think it's pretty cool, although I do prefer my Xbox One. One of my favorite features of the Wii U is the tablet style game-pad, If I'm watching t.v. or playing the Xbox my kids can still play their Wii U because the game-pad doubles as a secondary display/controller.

Yeah... I wouldn't listen to these rumors that says Nintendo is scraping the Wii U. It would be the stupidest decision they could ever make as this would cause the majority of consumers to lose faith in them. Besides, Nintendo themselves already confirmed recently they're not going to get rid of the Wii U and they're going to continue supporting it for this console generation.

As for weather or not you should buy the system, I'd say yes. The Wii U currently has a nice library of good exclusive titles with some new ones coming out in 2014/2015. The only thing I wish the Wii U had was more third-party support, which Nintendo unfortunately dropped the ball on.

Though, if you really want the biggest reason the buy the Wii U for... it would be when Super Smash Bros comes out. That is Wii U title I'm most excited for right now.

I know this doesn't really answer your question but how about buying older systems and playing on a regular CRT television or just sticking with the PS3 and XBox 360? Surely there are games for those systems that would interest you. Nintendo really needs to get their act together because it's sad how far the've fallen. Looking at EGM issues from the early 90s makes me miss the glory days of Nintendo so bad.

Another nice thing about the Wii U is that you can play the older Wii games on it too, it's backward compatible.

I use my PS4 far more often and plan on getting an Xbox One soon which I'll probably use much more as well, but I'm not disappointed by the Wii U purchase. Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8 are awesome games and later this year Bayonetta 2 (which includes 1 as a bonus), Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros are all coming out. Next year is Devil's Third, The Legend of Zelda and possibly Star Fox. It's not a bad system by any means. And I'm not too worried about the rumors... Nintendo has never not stuck with a home console for at least 5 years.
