This is my favorite RetroJunk look:

Idk what it was, but this look just felt so welcoming. The articles and videos being there and the colors just felt vibrant and fun. I think it was changed because one thing went wrong, involving user registration or something and so they redid the whole thing in 2013 and it looked very boring for the longest time until later that year, or earlier this year when it comes close to the way it looked back then, but still kinda depressing. But it was like this for the longest time, if I remember correctly; in this picture.

But this was easily my favorite style, being able to log on right from the home page, seeing the forums and everything else on the left...It just felt like RetroJunk. Oh, and my favorite icon, the TMNT Turtle, disappeared but now is back and it still looks pretty great, nothing altered. If I were an admin, I would easily go back to the way it looked in that picture I am showing you up there, it just felt like the website was at its pinnacle right there. Maybe someday...

I WHOLLY agree. That was the pinnacle of RJ design. And, was much of the inspiration for my design of RetroDaze.

When you visited RJ and that page layout showed up, it just felt like "home".

Even after the blue layout came back, people still weren't all that satisfied.

To me the old RJ is like a childhood home that one spent their entire adolescence in. They go back to the house years later and it's been torn down and totally rebuilt...but it still has the same color paint job.

This site used to have cool little sections to get lost in, tons of comments from a decade of people coming and going. I can only conclude Vertex had a lot of copyright threats breathing down his neck and he had to reduce the site to this.

Maybe the old site is still around on his hard drive or some defunct server or whatever. There's no magic here whatsoever and I'm surprised its still around. As Eddstarr would say,

The RetroJunk is dead. Long live the Retrojunk.

I would hate to think that some copyright claims were responsible for losing whole swaths of content. Not when you could remove the infringing content piecemeal. Whatever the reason, some simple clarification or openness regarding any changes being made would have really helped I think. As it was, Vertex seemed like the internet version of the Obama administration... tight-lipped about everything.

Retrojunk is like a plant. It grows and then it dies.
