I just saw it and a vast improvement over the 1998 Emmerich attempt no doubt and delivered action, good acting and great effects from WETA.

    Can't wait for the sequel

You say it was good. Please don't lie to me. Godzilla is one of my favorite characters in pop culture. I mean I'm still trying to recover from the remake of Robocop.

Is there a reason why Godzilla has to come to America? Are the movie makers that nationalistic? The few token locations and few token Asians just seemed
so contrived. Robocop too many Asian locales. obviously trying to pander to the Chinese overseas market,...Godzilla not enough.
It's like watching King Kong climbing The Eiffel Tower
        Effects good
        Acting ok i guess
story focused a bit too much on human characters
the monsters seemed to have a personal vendetta
against the hero and his family. i can understand that
the hero had a score to settle, but to the monsters all
humans are just insects unworthy of notice. I mean why
does it seem that he and his family have a ring side seat
        to every monster appearance ?

Don't take it too seriously. Don't over analyze it
and you might just enjoy it. Take it for what it is.

I'm looking forward to this movie, I hope its as good as the trailers show.
I agree with what Straydog posted, not taking the movie so seriously and just for what its worth, a big blockbuster action sci-fi film meant for entertainment.

I just saw it in theaters and boy howdy was it awesome! It was
everything about the Emmerich movie but done right. I really
like how they put the perspective through the human characters
to show climatic and otherworldly the monsters are.

P.S. I think it also has the funniest incorporation of an Elvis
                song in a movie. :)

Was it really that bad? No matter how bad it might seem to you, I bet it's
hell of a lot better than that Total Recall remake. God, that movie sucked.

Do you think Emmerich took notes?

It was exactly what you'd want in a classic Godzilla movie, but with a big budget treatment.

I heard this was a rather underwhelming remake. Like, it wasn't really bad, but it also wasn't really good either.

That is exactly my opinion. It was a huge improvement from 1998. Godzilla the monster looked good, story was o.k. But to me it seemed like the movie dragged alot.
