I sometimes swear I want to move because I'd rather be around people who took care of their bodies. It's absolutely disgusting. I'm not being rude, can't we take a break from this political correctness and fear of offending others? This is one reason the 21st Century sucks so bad. What's your opinion?

vkimo 6 months 24 days ago Posts: 2321 Forum Mod Editor	It has its pro and cons. I go back and forth between California and Pennsylvania a lot. In Pennsylvania people seem more laid back appearance wise and some are slovenly. It's nice though because I don't feel like I have to put on a false pretese, I can be myself so to speak. In California where I live e everyone seems to be on a fashion show. Yeah, the girls look great but it projects an overall materialistic, uptight vibe. Balance as always is the key. But yeah, no matter where you're from, going to the store in fleece pajamas is not ok.

RomanBlade86 6 months 24 days ago Posts: 289	I think the U.S. is a nation of extremes. You have some of the most unhealthy people in the world and you have some of the fittest people in the world. It really depends on a lot of factors. The U.S. is a huge melting pot and you have a huge mix of people and many factors influencing one another. Also, every state and city is different. I think the number one thing you have to have in your life is be fine with yourself. Whose to say that an overweight person may necessarily be depressed or a bad person? Maybe it's a combination of genetics, bad diet, medicine, hormone imbalance, etc. that is causing the person to blow up. A person that is in good shape may be obsessive compulsive, angry, depressed, etc. When I was younger I wanted to be around people that looked after themselves and that were good looking in some respects. Nowadays in my late 20s I realize that it's best just to be around calm people that don't need to show themselves and how great they are every second. I live in a small town now and wish I was raised in a small town instead where people are nicer to each other and have some sense of what is right and wrong and hold themselves responsible for their actions and behaviors whereas in a bigger city people have more excuses and factors for their bad behavior.

It was totally disrespectful, you wouldn't go to work like that. I remember my teacher used to take my hat if I wore it in class but I'm sure the PJ's irked her more.

I do watch what I eat, exercise, and shower regularly, so I guess those work for me. I'm in a long-term relationship, so I'm not really out to impress anyone. I'm also pretty cheap and I'm not going to put out a lot of money for clothes.

bassman21 6 months 5 days ago Posts: 4553	Everyone has their own opinion of how people in society should look and act. I think we all know the point where someones appearance just starts to look trashy and unappealing to others. It isn't about impressing people. It's about taking pride in yourself and your family and showing people that you care about them and what they think. Our appearance advertizes to people who we are. If a person can't take a little pride in their appearance. Are they going to have pride in their work? In their morals? Their health? These things can effect others. Do you want to touch something after people that don't wash their hands? Do you want to smell their body odor because they have not bathed in days? Should we have to? If they can't take a little time to get clean and dressed then they are probably lazy and unmotivated. Lazy people tend to unreliable. This also effect others. Yes I'm judging to make a point, but when we don't know a person all we have to go on is their appearance. We start to see trends after awhile. Who is more likely to steal from us? The guy dressed like a gang banger or the guy dressed like he came from the office? If you take the time to look presentable in public people will be less likely to judge you negatively. This overall gives you a more positive experience and will attract other to you that also have pride. It isn't about wearing trendy clothes and even dressy clothes. There is such a thing as being over dressed! Its more about hygiene and making sure the clothes you're wearing are clean and shows some modesty. Again it's showing people you care about yourself and them. Being poor isn't an excuse either. You can get some nice clothes at goodwill for a few dollars. I wear shorts, t-shirts and athletic shoes when I'm not working. If a shirt is stained I don't wear it. If I think I stink from say working in the yard I'm going to get cleaned up before going out. Again to show others respect. I guess the bigger issue is people just don't care anymore. They are getting lazy. Meanwhile others are obsessed with their appearance and their health. This can be equally as bad. Not just for them, but for others that feel they have to complete with them.
