I wasn't a huge fan of the book, but I can't really talk too much trash about it since it's a YA book. About all I can say is that I read it, there's some undertones in it I'm not fond of, and I have no desire to read the other two books.
As far as the movie is concerned, I'll probably have to see it tomorrow. We had a deal in place where she'd go with me to see Sabotage if I'd go with her to see Divergent. I'm dreading it. I think it has 25-30% on Rotten Tomatoes and I haven't read much good about it. It being nearly three hours also makes me want to weep. Someone on Twitter said it best: It looks like something NBC cancelled back in 2010.
I hope Muppets: Most Wanted wins the weekend, but I'm sure this garbage heap will take #1 at the box office. From what I can tell, it has a decent following.
My daughter read the series and is extremely excited to see the movie today. I hope for her sake its good. I don't think the target audience is the adults here, it's the teens that love the book. I'm not surprised if adults don't like it. Whereas good old school redneck jokes appeal to almost everyone (even rednecks), I think teen flicks really only appeal to teens. Anyway, my daughter talked me into reading the series which I just finished, and it wasn't that bad... very similar to Hunger Games. I wait for her opinion before I judge the movie, and then I'm not sure if I'll see it.
