CareBearCheer 11 months 4 days ago Posts: 47 Globally Banned	A few days ago, forum moderator Vkimo had this to say about the word 'retro': "We need to find a different word to classify time periods in regards to nostalgia. Based on the definition, it's anything even ressembling the past. So by that logic, the TV show the Goldberg's is retro even though it's currently in production. Those funky throwback shirts at Target are retro too. But we shouldn't necessarily be representing that on the site. I think." I've come up with a solution. Superbe-Passé. These two words are French and translate into English as "great past". It could refer to items that are suitable for RetroJunk articles as they aren't simply in the "past" but in the "great/greater past". People can make up their own minds about whether the qualifications of Superbe-Passé require a significant fashion change or a minimum time vintage of a decade or two. But I do think that it is better than simply "retro" and the fact that it is French gives the phrase some pizzazz. What do others think?

All I am saying is that if people like Vkimo wanta clearer definition of "old" then finding an alternative phrase to "retro" wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea. For example if you search "retro 2013" on ebay, you can find some old things, but even some new things that don't even represent a clear "throwback". As Vkimo said, definitions of retro imply that 2013 is a retro year. The term has been used and abused so badly that if you want to keep true to the idea of "old" things on this website, a fresh term would be needed to replace the stale "retro".

You would be just throwing away all the links, page rank, and search engine authority in one fell swoop. Sure, you could change the name, but not the web address, but how dumb would that look to a newcomer?

For example, if someone posts an article about 2006 you could say "It's technically in the past but it's not superbe passe. Try posting an article about 1996 instead. Make sense?

Using Vkimo's example, imagine that last week Target released a t-shirt with a picture of Kurt Cobain on it. If I buy this t-shirt, it is technically retro today.
