When will the concept of random "channel surfing" die because of the "all-you-can-eat"/on-demand provided by new internet services? I prefer cable surfing, the advantage of that is the surprise of randomness and just a good feeling.

I heard that it will be in a short time from now, I'm just worried about giving up this "past time" of mine.

Honestly, whenever I go into any "On Demand" menu and I see the countless titles, I soon loose interest.

Put it this way. No way on earth I would select Gladiator to watch on demand, now if I'm cruising and it's on TNT, then I'll watch it. Kinda weird like that.

I use an app called Peel to browse what's on T.V., it separates everything by category so it's very quick and easy get a grasp on what’s on. The shows are displayed with pictures like Netflix/Hulu, so it's much better than reading the guide. I use a Galaxy tablet with built-in IR blaster so I can change the channels simply by clicking in the Peel app.

When I get the Xbox One I will not have to use my hands at all to browse what's on t.v.

I think TV stations will continue to be around for quite a bit more time. Even if some move to a strictly on-demand model, there is a huge number of channels. Many will continue to operate as they currently do, even if they decide to supplement operation with additional options like asynchronous internet platforms.

I agree about the randomness factor. I like to find my programs on the hunt too sometimes, it kind of reminds me of Jurassic park when the T Rex didn't want to eat the cow because it was served to him like he was some kind of domestic dog lol. I still flip through channels from time to time, but I mostly use Peel now because I don't have a lot of time to channel surf.
