Frankly, I hate it. I can't reply to any old comments anymore.
Honestly, Google doesn't seem to understand the message "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
What do you think of this new layout.

I think we'll all complain and hate it....but forget what the old format was in a month.

I don't see much of a change with the comments section.

I could never understand the comments section on youtube. They're all out of chronological order. People make @soandso replies, but soandso is nowhere to be found in the next three pages of comments. Et cetera. It's a cluster so I pay no mind.

Yeah I don't see how anyone can have a coherent conversation there.

I choose not to be a YouTube member. The folks there are the reason. I don't think I'd be comfortable with guys who are racist and talking about rape.

On one hand, I agree that google fucks with stuff WAAAYY too much. It's like they have some OCD where they have something good, they must compulsively destroy it.
On the other hand, it's comments on youtube, who gives a damn?? The only time youtube comments are remotely decent is when they provide extra info on the video (like when there's a good song in the vid & someone identifies it in the comments).

I kind of like YouTube comments when they're informative and are actually about the video in question, but I agree they can get really obnoxious sometimes.

It really depends on the video you go to, really. If you go onto more logical and brainy stuff that only intellectuals will see, the comments are pretty civil.

In all cases, I haven't seen any comment section worse than Yahoo! News or Liveleak.
P.S. You can report racist comments on YouTube using a certain tool. Often they reply within a few days, and if you're caught too often you can get suspended. I got a bunch of n-word comments pulled down within 24 hours.

And does it really matter whether the guy who makes the very first comment for a video is the first guy? No. What does he want for saying "first"?

It's kind of amusing when you see people saying "I came here from [newer thing]" on retro videos.

Google made this change to force people to sign up for a Google+ account. Without it you really can't comment. They spent millions getting Google+ going and few people use it preferring Facebook instead. It's a failure and they just need to count their losses and move on.

The comment section is horrible. People can post endless rants, you can't always see the message someone is replying to and when you post a reply to a topic they send you an email from every post on the comment even if it isn't directed at you. When I used to watch videos I would right click on 'view comments' and open them in a new window so I could scan through them. Now it doesn't let me and I'm forced to view a few at a time. I also can't reply to some people and on some videos can't reply to anyone! Bullshit!

It's all a bunch of corporate bullshit. Google could care less about its users and what they think. Their long term goal is to make youtube into an online commercial video service. They are deliberately putting the big channels in the recommended and leaving the small time ones hidden. I come across good videos all the time with 5 views, but no one would know unless they did a specific search. Before they showed up in the recommended and would get views.

There are several other changes over the last couple of years that are not for the better. Such as the channel layouts, viewing subscribed videos and how everyone can be a so called partner. What sucks is we have not alternative that gives us the variety that youtube offers. Hopefully there will be and youtube ends up like myspace.

The problem right now is that YouTube is tweaked to compromise between copyright and free viewership. Often companies put ads on copyrighted content so you can watch the video while supporting the company. Most other sites don't have this flexibility, and official content is lacking.

The comments section should just work like a forum thread should. I can't make sense of the comments section on Youtube, same goes for Reddit. Doesn't bother me too much though because I don't feel like getting into conversations other than on forums.

As a side note, I really can't stand most "Youtubers" now. In the early days people made videos because it was fun. They didn't make money off it. Now though these twerps are making loads of cash and their videos are basically commercials.

The problem with YouTube is there's so much hostility. There wouldn't be if there were more decent users.
